83827B194750-54B5-4335-B830-84670E9DFD8BA185402Night on Bald Mountain (Night on the Bare Mountain)Originally written by Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881) for piano and orchestra, Night on Bald Mountain (alternatively Night on the Bare Mountain) was long left neglected by the composer. Having several musical iterations in existence, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908), whose orchestration brought the piece out of obscurity, initially struggled with which of Mussorgsky's versions to use. Already a popular piece in Rimsky-Korsakov's day, its use in Disney's Fantasia cemented its place in the popular consciousness. 83847B25133C-FB11-4C77-9305-3710DD0694D320405003Southern BellesThis arrangement was designed for Middle School and easy High School use in situations where there are no (or few) color instruments such as oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor and baritone saxophones. The arrangements will sound complete with only flutes, clarinets and alto saxophones, but optional parts are provided for those color instruments which when added will add depth and color to the total sound. There are two Southern Belles in this short piece - 'Aura Lee' (a college song made popular by Elvis Pressley as 'Love Me Tender'). and a Stephen Collins Foster favorite - 'O Susanna.' which became a favorite song of the 1949 Gold Rush. The songs are treated in two contrasting syles - the first being legato and lyrical, and the second is light, staccato and frivolous. Performers and audiences will enjoy these songs as arranged for this variety of woodwind instruments.Woodwind Choir

83887B3563BD-AD0D-4728-BB08-11FD152DE68ES979CBDance of the Knights from Romeo and JulietThis publication marks the first-ever symphonic wind band edition of the Dance of the Knights, from Scene 2 “Capulet’s Ball” of Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet. “[The ballet] led to one of the most beloved dance works in the repertory and a series of famous orchestral suites…but the celebrated legacy of Romeo and Juliet belies its tortured history: It left Prokofiev broken and emerged from a period that left many of his colleagues dead.” (New York Times). Nathan Jones’ scoring for symphonic wind band faithfully captures the magic of the original orchestration of this famous work, which has been heard in numerous films and TV shows, including The Simpsons, War Machine, Good Morning Britain and Gotham, among many others. This piece is an ideal opener or closer for intermediate to advanced band.Concert Band

The composer selected four poems penned by his distant cousin, Arseny Golenishchev-Kutuzov, each depicting death as a personified agent of relief from affliction. Mussorgsky passed away before completing a full orchestral version of the work. This version, scored by Dmitri Shostakovich in 1962, was written for Russian soprano Galina Vishnevskaya, to whom he dedicated it. Reprint edition. Movements: 1. Lullaby/Berceuse [Wiegenlied]; 2. Serenade [Wiegenlied/Ständchen]; 3. Trepak [Tanzlied]; 4. Field Marshal [Der feldherr/Feldherr tod]. 83927B3C6762-7458-4F0A-9568-C66AADEAC279SU846Serenade (from the incidental music to King Christian II, Op. 27) for Piano QuintetThe SERENADE is the prelude to the third act of Adolf Paul’s play KING CHRISTIAN II, for which Sibelius composed the incidental music. The SERENADE, preceding a court ball scene, is perhaps suggestive of the King’s and Dyveke’s love, and is emblematic of the composer’s distinctive compositional style. That style, eminently apparent in this piano quintet arrangement, features a drive towards continuous growth by means of steady thematic transformation and supportive, highly diversified ostinato textures.Piano Quintet
