The most exciting result of this band method is the vast improvement of the weakest areas of development for the beginner- tone quality, intonation and rhythmic accuracy. Immediate improvement is evident as the body becomes physically involved by using controlled breath impulses and the foot to subdivide a beat. This is not just another method book; it is a concept carefully designed to provide a professional approach to the teaching of beginning band students.Band Method
84127BA26EBC-F128-45E7-A27E-96FD21658F70B492SCSight Reading for Band, Bk. 3Volume 3 includes several advanced problems in the areas of ensemble reading and performance. These include smaller rhythmic divisions, more complex syncopation and asymmetrical meters in the area of rhythm while in pitch the use of extended ranges, modalities, distant modulations and chromaticism challenge the abilities of advancing players. Additional attention is also needed in dynamic balance between the parts as well as expressive articulation within varying formal and phrase structures. Instrumental parts added from Volume 2 include second flute, alto clarinet, second alto saxophone, third trombone, timpani and mallets.Band Method

84147BA74139-A82C-4596-8BD2-C4A71C266976MP491002Revelation Studies: A Ballet for Two CarillonneursPremiere: University of Michigan, Summer 1978. Review (Diapason, Oct. 1978): “The concluding work was the premiere of William Bolcom’s Revelation Studies, an eight-movement work based on Biblical themes and commissioned by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Each movement includes choreography, and several movements require two players at the carillon; in these, Mr. (Hudson) Ladd was assisted by John Gouwens. The work made a brilliant finale to both the concert and the congress, and the composer was present to acknowledge the ovation from the large audience. This production had required the building of a substantial stage at the foot of the tower, as well as the use of lighting and costumes; the timing of the conclusion was very good: the heavens opened with a summer downpour immediately following!2 Carillonneurs, Dancers
