The quintet derives its title from the instrumental fantasy which proliferates during that period of English music history. The London String Quartet, with the addition of violist James Lockyer, gave the first performance on March 23, 1914. | Two Violins, Two Violas, and Violoncello | |
| 12785 | BAE0BBCB-580C-4C67-8C3D-B549ADB35226 | SS300 | Petite Piece Concertante | This piece for the intermediate to advanced players is a standard for trumpet, great for both contest or recital. It opens with a slow, lyrical passage, before moving to a march that shows off the player's technical skills. | Trumpet, Piano | |
| 12786 | BAE5824B-73AC-4C49-A04A-A89DFB8A656E | SU422 | The Old Sore-Head (Der Alte Brummbar), solo/ Piano reduction | Also titled "Der alte Brummbar" (The Old Grumbling Bear). By Julius Fucik, justifiably called the "Czech March King", this "polka comique" came to the attention of the editor when he began searching for "concert in the park" bassoon solo pieces. The title is thought to be a musical portrait, either of Fucik himself or of some cranky older bassoonist that Fucik met in his long career. The score and parts encourage a comic performance rather than an exercise in virtuosity. Arrangements include: solo with piano (SU422), concert band (S776CB), and orchestra (A47C). | Bassoon and Piano | |
| 12787 | BAE7B59F-657F-4780-9EC9-2B1C53BA9F39 | S692 | Third Symphony, Op. 89 | The Third Symphony stands today as one of Barnes' most personal and emotionally charged works. Commissioned by the US Air Force Band under Col. Alan Bonner, it was begun in earnest shortly after the tragic loss of the composer's baby daughter Nataile. The work progresses from the deepest darkness of despair all the way to the brightness of fullfillment and joy. The massive structure encompassed four movements: Lento; Scherzo; Fantasia "Natalie"; and a joyful "Finale." | Concert Band | |

| 12793 | BAFD790C-64C3-47D3-B086-261F0BA86146 | MP814025 | Cabaret Songs (Volumes 1 and 2) | This is a collection of 12 songs primarily for the classical singer to perform in recital with piano accompaniment. The songs are in a medium voice range, and could probably be performed by any voice type (soprano, mezzo-soprano, etc.), although mezzo-sopranos will find them most suitable. The music has quite a theatrical flair, although it is in a contemporary classical style. Distinctive repertoire with a twist. Arnold Weinstein's texts are as pithy as Bolcom's settings of them. Contents: Over the Piano • Fur (Murray the Furrier) • He Tipped the Waiter • Waitin • Song of Black Max (as told by de Kooning boys) • Amor • Places to Live • Toothbrush Time • Surprise! • The Actor • Oh Close the Curtain • George. | ||

| 12795 | BB060080-C863-48FC-B95F-914E3EFC5304 | A280102 | Andrea Chenier: Aria (soprano): La mamma morta (excerpt) | Umberto Giordano (1867-1948) wrote the four-act verismo opera Andrea Chénier in 1896, and it remains his best-known work. It premiered on March 28, 1896, at La Scala in Milan. Loosely based on the life of French poet André Chénier, the libretto by Luigi Illica sets the story of love and class conflict with the French Revolution as a backdrop. While the tenor playing the title character has numerous wonderful arias, perhaps the most popular is the soprano aria La mamma morta, sung by Maddalena, the daughter of a Duchess, as she describes everything she has lost to the Revolution, including her own mother. | 12798 | BB10BFD1-C6AB-447A-97EB-527CEBEE262F | A803302 | Primo amore piacer del ciel, WoO 92 (Concert Aria) | Written sometime between 1795-1800, Ludwig van Beethoven’s (1770-1827) Primo amore piacer del ciel for soprano and ensemble is a setting of a work that may have been penned by Italian poet and librettist Pietro Antonio Domenico Trapassi (better known by his pseudonym Pietro Metastasio). The text speaks of unrequited love and heartbreak.
