9363896329cd-9e3b-11f0-a418-0022482c9682S1063CBFive Dances for Five Clarinets and Band, Second EditionAlfred Reed composed Five Dances for Five Clarinets in 1956 at the request of the LeBlanc instrument company to introduce the performance capabilities and tone of each instrument of the clarinet family. The five movements are based on musical styles from around the world: 1. Hoe-Down (E-flat Soprano Clarinet), 2. Sarabande (E-flat Alto Clarinet or Basset Horn in F), 3. Guaracha (Bass Clarinet), 4. Afro (E-flat Contra Alto or B-flat Contra Bass Clarinet), and 5. Hora (B-flat Clarinet). Previously, the score and parts for Five Dances for Five Clarinets were only available on a rental basis, and Reed had not included the composition in his own list of published works. Yasuhiro Murakami, author of an annotated list of Reed’s works, created this edition based on Reed’s manuscript. This work may be performed by one soloist on five different clarinets, by five separate soloists, or a smaller number of the movements may be played by one or by multiple soloists. Each of the Five Dances is also published with piano accompaniments which are still in print. The detailed “Master Plan Lesson” written by Donald McCathren of LeBlanc for each movement are available for digital download.Clarinet solo (Eb Soprano, Bb Soprano, Eb Alto, Bb Bass, Eb Contra Alto), Band Accompaniment

93718977282d-9e3b-11f0-a418-0022482c9682S1067CBBolero for BandInitially commissioned by Ida Rubenstein as a ballet work initially, Maurice Ravel’s BOLERO has become his most popular and often-performed orchestra composition, which was a surprise to the composer who described it as “seventeen minutes of orchestra without any music.” With a structure that is simplicity itself, BOLERO uses two alternating melodies in what Ravel described as a “crescendo on commonplace melod[ies].” Mark Rogers’ transcription of BOLERO is an entirely complete wind band version of the piece; omitting not a single note or exotic instrument, thereby transferring the brilliance of Ravel’s orchestral score to the symphonic wind band with as much fidelity to the original as possible. Ravel calls for a very large orchestra (triple woodwinds, saxophones, large brass section, harp, celesta and percussion). Consequently, this transcription of BOLERO contains a large amount of divisi writing. It goes without saying that this transcription will be most successfully performed by large symphonic wind band. 11x14 oversized score.Large Symphonic Wind Band

93808994DA45-71F2-4015-BE86-21BDFCD33C9FR00003Body LoopsBODY LOOPS (for piano and orchestra) is inspired by the book DESCARTES’ ERROR by neuroscientist Antonio Damasio. The book describes two ways we experience memories which he calls the “as if loop” and the “body loop.” The music represents emotionally charged memories as they travel the loop from mind to body and back. It is structured in a series of musical loops in which ideas are presented in varying states of intensity. Just as in real life, the loops are suddenly triggered by events, which in this case are musical gestures.Piano Solo: 1(d Picc).1.1.1: 2.1.1.0: Perc(1): Str
