| 4762 | 44B1A717-CB78-4415-80B3-A9DB71A48C46 | S131008 | Eighteen Etudes for Clarinet | Since he first played them as a student, editor Charles Neidich has had a special love for Jeanjean's 18 Etudes de peifectionnement. These etudes are highly developed concert works that can make for very impressive additions to recital programs. Jeanjean provided wonderfully detailed directions for his etudes. This edition includes a detailed appendix, including a chart of fingerings which allow improved facility and tone over the original ones, a dictionary of French musical terms, and a consolidated index of Jeanjean's original chord descriptions, which were omitted from the previous English edition. Charles Neidich's superb recordings, which offer a window into the modern yet romantic style of the etudes and as a model of the kind of performance to which the student should aspire, is available for free download at keisersouthernmusic.com. | Clarinet | |

Considered during his lifetime the best-known Danish composer after Niels Gade, he studied with Hans von Bülow and Hector Berlioz, the latter having a great influence on his style. After some movement around Europe, in 1871 Hamerik took a position in the United States at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. It was during his time there that he composed most of his large-scale works, having the Institute's orchestra at his disposal. Returning to Denmark in 1900 with his American pianist and composer wife, he essentially retired and lived out the remainder of his life in his home country, occasionally sitting on competition boards and conducting. Symphony No. 6 in G, Op. 38 'Symphonie Spirituelle' was written for string orchestra in 1897, just a few short years before his return to Denmark. A string count of 8-8-5-5-5 is included in the set. | String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set) | |

What followed was a second version in 1878 with a revised finale from 1880, then a third version from 1889. While there is great debate about how much was done by Bruckner himself and how much was perhaps done by another hand has created disagreement among musicologists for approximately a century. One of the musicologists, the Austrian Robert Haas (1886-1960) produced this 1936 edition of the second revised version from 1880, believing it to be the definitive version that could be verified to be by Bruckner's own hand. It was this version that premiered on February 20, 1881, by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Hans Richter conducting. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.3.3.1: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).
