It is now believed that the works were composed by one of Bach's pupils, though neither which pupil or a date of composition can be determined. These short pieces, written to teach organists or pedal clavichord players, translates well to string orchestra and have been transcribed by Isidore Russ and edited by Alexander Richter. 473644303FBA-BA7E-4E07-B647-B82EF1B4C97810100304ShakataDana Wilson always strives to introduce students and audiences to new ways of thinking about music and performance practices. This work serves somewhat as an incantation, a summoning up of, by means of a group music ritual, the goodness of the earth and, consequently, ourselves. Rhythmic vocalizations abound, juxtaposed with rhythmical, percussive ensemble writing. Dana Wilson is a master and his works light up any program in which they are performed.Concert Band

They have been arranged for many different instruments and ensembles over the years. In 1850, Brahms was introduced to “gypsy-style” music through Hungarian violinist Ede Reményi, including the csárdás “Bártfai emlék” (Memories of Bártfa) by Hungarian composer Béla Kéler, which became the basis for Hungarian Dance No. 5. Hungarian Dance No. 8 in A Minor, here orchestrated by Sam Dennison, invites comparison with the celebrated fifth dance and features lilting dotted rhythms and sudden key changes. 4740444785D8-D488-4544-982C-BCAA284B96D4MR00502A Betrothal: A Chamber MusicalA BETROTHAL is as much a piece of musical theater as it is an extended art song for two singing actors with accompaniment. Ms. J.H. Joslyn and Mr. Kermit Wasserman, two horticulturalists, meet by chance at a flower show. Through the course of their charming encounter they discover that their prize irises may be the perfect mates for each other. The music underscores Joslyn’s and Wasserman’s encounter, highlights their disparate personalities, and characterizes how two very different people move from an uneasy chance meeting to an easy alliance.Mz-Sop & Bar Soloists and Piano
