The first four notes of the piece form a cell out of which all three movements are generated. The four notes are used both as a tonal center for each movement and to generate melodic ideas. In a demonic chase, the third movement pays homage to the horn's heritage as an instrument of the hunt.Horn Quartet

17491FED8168D-82B2-4344-BBCC-1593256C84F4A122102Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F, BWV 1047The Brandenburg Concertos are a collection of six instrumental works by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) written around or before 1721 to be presented to Christian Ludwig, the Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt. With the original French title "Six Concerts à plusieurs instruments" (Six Concertos for several instruments), some feature multiple solo instruments in different combinations. These works are considered among the best orchestral compositions of the Baroque period. The Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, BWV 1047, utilizes four solo instruments: Natural Trumpet in F, Flute (Recorder), Oboe, and Violin. This trumpet solo, originally written for a clarino specialist, is considered among the most difficult in the trumpet repertoire. In addition to the original version, a simplified version of the trumpet part is included. This edition is a reprint of the Bach-Gesellschaft Ausgabe edition ("Bach Society Edition"), which is a collection of the complete works of Johann Sebastian Bach published in a series of 46 volumes from 1851-1899. Following a rocky, but generally positive, reception both in the United States and subsequently in Russia, Tchaikovsky happily took the advice given by German pianist Edward Dannreuther in 1876 on how to improve the piano writing, and more advice was offered by Russian pianist Alexander Siloti, all of which resulted in a new edition published in 1879. Among the changes instituted was the replacement of rolled chords at the beginning of the first movement to solid chords. A few small revisions a decade later resulted in the final version, which premiered on January 20, 1888, by the Philharmonic Society in Hamburg, with Vasily Sapelnikov at the piano and the composer conducting. This final edition was published in 1890. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set) [Solo Piano]. Study score.2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set) [Solo Piano]
