The first performance took place at that event on January 21 in the Sofiensaal in Vienna, the composer at the baton. It takes its name from the Pythagorean theory which suggests that every planet in the universe exudes its own musical note as it orbits in its course among the stars. The subject of the waltz proved somewhat controversial as the writers of the Fremden-Blatt observed that its music, inappropriately for a medical ball, reminded its attendees of the next world. Published posthumously, it is composed in three sections, fast-slow-fast, resembling a concertino form, but somewhat shorter. The finale is lighthearted, full of obvious enjoyment in which the technical resources of the solo instruments are exploited to the limit, concluding with a brilliant duo cadenza. | 16365 | EF7D3E4E-BC5B-4251-84D2-F119E1FBC355 | 20532414 | Olde Tyme Songs | These two original trios: Sentimental Waltz and Rambunctious Rag were conceived for trombone or euphonium trio. They are written in the style of music around 1900 - a time when vaudeville and ragtime were in vogue. The waltz must be played sweetly with nice phrasing and vibrato to the point of sounding schmaltzy.and the rag in contrast is light and frivolous, but really not too rambunctious! The third part has quite a few glissandi which can be effectively play on euphonium using chromatic or diatonic runs. Treble clef parts are included. Lots of fun to be had in these two short pieces for players and audiences alike. | Trombone or Euphonium Trio | |
