About this Edition by Stephen Shipps, Professor of Violin, University of Michigan Schradieck School of Violin Techniques, Volume 1 appears in its first new American edition in over a century. The edition is by eminent Czech violinist and teacher, Jaroslav Foltyn, Professor at the Prague Conservatory. Professor Foltyn is a master of teaching violin left hand technique and has produced an edition with modern solutions to many technical issues that have existed for decades. The original fingerings by Schradieck are often very problematic for students without very long fingers for stretching. The new fingerings do not promote any injurious efforts and are written with the compete knowledge of modern violin art.
