It was an immediate hit, and Fiedler encouraged him to write more original compositions for the orchestra, starting a succession of works that have since become well known. Cast in a single continuous movement, the concerto is filled with emotional contrasts, angular melodies, and sudden shifts between lyricism and confrontation—reflecting, in part, Nielsen’s awareness of Oxenvad’s mercurial temperament. The piece also features an unusual role for the snare drum, which interjects combatively with the soloist. Though initially challenging to audiences, it is now considered one of the cornerstones of the 20th-century clarinet repertoire, prized for its dramatic intensity, psychological depth, and technical demands. Oxenvad performed the premiere with the Copenhagen Wind Quintet under the baton of Erik Tuxen on October 11, 1928. They were not performed until 24th November 1919 together with the first performance of the final version of the fifth symphony. The soloist for the Humoresques was Paul Cherkassky. According to the critics, he came close to being drowned out by the orchestra. This publication is the first quality reprint edition of the Humoresque No. 4 in G minor. This work is a statement of faith, a work of intense anguish and resolution. The inspiration is taken from the opening movement of the mass, the Kyrie (“Kyrie eleison; Christe eleison; Kyrie eleison”), a crying out for mercy to God. The work may be performed with much rubato, and the performer should try greatly to capture the anguish (the crying out of the Kyrie) and eventual peace (the cry for mercy answered) expressed throughout. | Trombone

Therefore, this book has categorized the many phases of the warm-up in the following: buzzing the mouthpiece; long tones; flexibility; scales; single, double and triple tonguing; velocity; range. The players can then select exercises from each of the categories as they alone can determine how much and what phases of the warm-up will fulfill the immediate needs. | Trumpet
