| 15825 | E852CB46-87B0-42E9-8DE4-41F010579AC6 | X104002 | Concertino for Woodwinds | Commissioned by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, this concertino was originally conceived as a part of a complete educational concert program. Four concertini, each featuring a different instrumental family within the chamber orchestra, are played in succession to demonstrate the characteristic sounds of those instruments. The music is thematically related but not identical to the Concertino for Chamber Orchestra (parts available on rental from the publisher), which serves as the program's closer, demonstrating all of the orchestral sections playing together. This program is suggested by the composer for orchestra concerts, however each instrumental concertino can be performed individually and stands quite effectively on its own as a short chamber recital piece. | Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon | |

Scored for double male chorus, narrator, and orchestra, the work blends Classical restraint with Romantic expression, using antique-sounding choral writing and modal harmonies to evoke the solemn dignity of ancient Greek drama. The first performance took place at the New Palace in Potsdam on October 28, 1841. Though not often staged today with the full play, the work represents 19th-century interest in classical antiquity, admired for its dignified beauty and innovative dramatic integration. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.2.3.0: Timp: Hp: Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set): Double Men's Chorus: Narrator. Reprint edition. The vocal score (W110391), which includes only English text, is also available from the publisher. | 2.2.2.2: 2.2.3.0: Timp: Hp: Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set): Double Men's Chorus: Narrator | |

| 15835 | E86D5849-9E2E-40C2-B66E-3B1DE4B13A20 | SO184C | Montague Minuet | Ignatius Sancho wrote Minuet Nos. 9 and 10 for harpsichord as part of a longer published collection of minuets titled Minuets, Cotillions, and Country Dances. This piece explores the Classical style of playing; including bowings, dynamic changes, and phrasing. The consistent 3/4 time signature allows students to perform with a lyrical musical style while maintaining forward movement. The piece uses both D major and A major and requires all sections to use extensions. This refined piece is a great introduction to a lesser-known Classical era composer and is a beautiful addition to your concert repertoire. | String Orchestra | |

The Symphony was premiered in 1927 by Serge Koussevitsky and the Boston Symphony Orchestra; Sessions, however, was dissatisfied with the work and withdrew it for revision. Though far from atonal, this energetic three-movement work employs an extended tonal language characterized by striking chromaticism and freely constructed sonorities. Movements: 1. Giusto, 2.
