15024DCFDD931-2787-4607-9EDB-7D272D62CB07B561Songs for Sight Singing Vol. 3: JH/ SATBSONGS FOR SIGHT SINGING provides a collection of literature for use in the choral classroom. Each selection was composed according to the criteria designed by Texas choral directors and commissioned by the Texas University Interscholastic League for use in its annual sight singing contest. These graded materials were created specifically for young musicians by recognized composers and comprise a valuable resource as they contain many of the problems encountered in sight singing. This collection can be used effectively as a supplement to the daily instructional sight singing program after an approved system (movable “do”, fixed “do” or numbers) and a rhythm system are established within the choral curriculum.SATB

Over the course of a long career, one of his most celebrated compositions was the score for DON QUIXOTE, originally written in 1869 with four acts for famed choreographer Marius Petipa, then expanded in 1871 into five acts. He composed 24 symphonies, and the SYMPHONY in D Major is among his best liked works. The symphony opens (Allegro Moderato) with a broad, dignified theme somewhat reminiscent of Handel, while the second movement (Andante espressivo) is a beautiful air with oboe solos that are cued in the 1st Violin and Clarinet parts. The third movement is a gay Maestoso. Optional saxophone parts are included as well as Violin 3 parts as substitutions for the Viola part.2.2.2.2: 2Sax (AT; opt.): 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(2-3): Str (9.8.7[+3 Vn3 Va sub.].6.5 in set)

15038DD28861F-7648-441A-8B2F-483EAFCFECE9A171302Midsummer Night's Dream, A: Incidental Music, Op. 61 (Ein Sommernachtstraum); No. 9: Wedding MarchFelix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) wrote music for William Shakespeare's play A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM on two separate occasions. He first wrote the concert overture in E Major, Op. 21 in 1826 at the age of seventeen for no other reason than the love that he and his siblings had for Shakespeare’s stage works. He wrote the incidental music, Op. 61 (likely the best-known incidental music in the repertoire) in 1842 as a commission from King Frederick William IV of Prussia. In creating the complete later version, the composer incorporated the original overture, Op. 21 as the overture for the incidental music and the first of the 14 numbers. Starting with what must be four of the most evocative and memorable chords in music, the work also is the origin of this excerpted Wedding March (No. 9) used in so many ceremonies today, commonly referred to as "Here Comes the Bride." The work was premiered in Potsdam, Germany on October 14, 1843 by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, conducted by the composer. 15039DD2A9E6A-4B9B-48F4-BCF6-7F1B8D458C90SU334The Classical Rag"The Classical Rag" was originally composed for string quartet and published under the title "The String Quartet Rag". Subsequently, editions have been published for string orchestra, violin quartet, brass quintet, and flute choir. It is intended to be a light-hearted piece, ideally suited for inclusion in programs of a humorous nature. The astute listener will recognize the presence of themes borrowed from Mozart's "Eine kleine Nachtmusik", and Haydn's Symphony in G Major, the so-called "Surprise Symphony".Woodwind Quintet
