QUEENSLAND MATILDA is an old melody often forgotten or thought of as a second choice for the traditional Waltzing Matilda theme. This setting features the old theme in a variety of textures. A beautiful and plaintive folk song is Moreton Bay, the story of a convict contemplating his fate and dreaming of his true love as he is quietly walking... ONE SUNDAY MORNING. The spirit of excitement and frivolity is revived in the tune of a folk song that talks of ship-board life of passengers and crew that are BOUND FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA.String Orchestra

Structured in two large movements, "Inferno" and "Purgatorio," with an added "Magnificat" choral finale at the suggestion of Richard Wagner, the symphony traces a dramatic journey from the torments of Hell to the hope of spiritual redemption. Though not performed as frequently as some of his other orchestral works, it is recognized as one of his most ambitious symphonic creations due to its vivid orchestration and daring harmonic language. The work premiered in Dresden in 1857 under the direction of Hans von Bülow. Instrumentation: 2+1(Picc).2+1(EH).2+1(BCl).2: 4.2.3.1: Timp(2).Perc(3): Hp(2): Str(9.8.7.6.5 in set): Women's Chor. Taking as inspiration Louis's "Point of Tranquility," which hangs at the Smithsonian's Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C., composer Kenneth Fuchs has created in musical sound, gesture, and form the artist's vivid washes of color and sense of structural freedom. Point of Tranquility was composed especially for the United States Coast Guard Band in New London, Connecticut, and its director Lieutenant Commander Adam R. Williamson as a gift for the extraordinary support throughout the performance and recording of Kenneth Fuch's band music.Wind Ensemble/Band

Smith and the Kansan Intercollegiate Band. Since its publication, it has become one of the composer's most popular works, and has been arranged for a variety of ensembles. The composer writes "I composed this little piece so that younger players would have the opportunity to play a piece that is more or less in the style of (Grainger's) Irish Tune from County Derry." This arrangment for tuba and band was written for tuba virtuoso Patrick Sheridan.Tuba, Band
