Each selection was composed according to the criteria designed by Texas choral directors and commissioned by the Texas University Interscholastic League for use in its annual sight singing contest. These graded materials were created specifically for young musicians by recognized composers and comprise a valuable resource as they contain many of the problems encountered in sight singing. This collection can be used effectively as a supplement to the daily instructional sight singing program after an approved system (movable “do”, fixed “do” or numbers) and a rhythm system are established within the choral curriculum. | SATB | |
| 14682 | D7FD5BA9-9C7C-4AA6-BB5E-6A45A9F52F88 | A848602 | Symphony No. 2 in D, IEM 20 | Étienne-Nicolas Méhul (1763-1817), whose artistic career coincided with the French Revolution, earned the admiration of both Beethoven and Napoleon. As a composer of more than forty operas, he also wrote five innovative symphonies filled with lyricism and drama. SYMPHONY No. 2 in D Major, completed in 1809 and first performed on March 26th, invites comparison to the early symphonies of Franz Schubert. A breezy optimism flows from the first page to the last, rounded off by a zestful timpani part in the finale which Beethoven might have smiled at. This edition by Clinton B. Fairlamb is part of the Nieweg Performance Edition series. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.0.0.0: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set). | 2.2.2.2: 2.0.0.0: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set) | |

| 14690 | D82953DA-ED45-4770-B0F2-2DFB3C92613F | 20712105 | Irish Air and Dance | These two familiar Irish tunes (Londonderry Air & Galway Piper) offer a different experience for string ensembles who so often are relegated to Baroque music. There is no song in the world more beautiful than Londonderry Air which calls for expressive playing of the highest order. Parts are all in first position range in this song, but rubato of tempo and sensitive musicianship are absolutely necessary for a quality performance. Galway Piper does require skill in third position and rapid bow technique to bring out the excitement of that familiar Irish dance. An optional part for viola is supplied in lieu of 3rd violin. | Violin 1, 2 and 3 (opt. Viola) | |

With a libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) worked on it from 1893 to 1895. It first appeared at the Teatro Regio in Turin on February 1, 1896, conducted by 28-year-old Arturo Toscanini. Weighed negatively against Turin’s recent Italian premiere of the Wagner opera GÖTTERDAMMERUNG, it received a lukewarm response from audience and critics. A few months later, concertgoers filled opera houses on both sides of the Atlantic to hear it. Breaking up with Rodolfo in Act III, Mimi sings "Donde lieta usci; Addio, senza rancor," telling him she has no hard feelings and offering her pink bonnet in memory of their love.
