The compositions in this volume have been selected for their programmatic and educational as well as developmental values. The material has also been compiled with the viewpoint of keeping it interesting from the melodic, rhythmic and harmonic outlook, and to instill well-balanced musicianship. The work shows the influence of Italian composers such as Vivaldi, although this concerto stands apart from the Italian model in that the soloist and the ensemble, rather than competing against each other, collaborate to provide organic interest. This Kalmus edition was edited by Wilhelm Rust for the Bach-Gesellschaft Ausgabe (Bach Society Edition). Instrumentation: Hpschrd: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Solo Violin in set. Each selection was composed according to the criteria designed by Texas choral directors and commissioned by the Texas University Interscholastic League for use in its annual sight singing contest. These graded materials were created specifically for young musicians by recognized composers and comprise a valuable resource as they contain many of the problems encountered in sight singing. This collection can be used effectively as a supplement to the daily instructional sight singing program after an approved system (movable “do”, fixed “do” or numbers) and a rhythm system are established within the choral curriculum. | SSA | |
| 14619 | D729CD2D-A733-4C02-82BD-7D1A2CC7B89E | M284491 | Priere, Op. 158 | Saint-Saëns composed Prière, or Prayer, for violoncello and organ, Op. 158 in 1919. It is a simple and catchy tune: The cantabile beginning is followed by an expressive middle section which leads back to the quiet beginning. The organ part can also be played on piano as it is meant for a double-manual instrument and the few pedal notes are marked "ad libitum" by the composer. In 1920, a year after the initial publication of Prière, the original publisher also published an adaptation for violin, Op. 158b. Due to their meditative character, both versions are ideal for concert or liturgical performances. | Cello and Piano | |

NON TEMER, AMATO BENE (WILL I FORGET YOU/ ... FEAR NOT, BELOVED), K. 505, was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) in December of 1786 in Vienna. Mozart had previously written an insertion aria based (KV 490) on the same text by Giovanni Battista Varesco for a revised version of his 1781 opera IDOMENEO to be performed privately at Prince Auersperg's palace. The aria in that case was intended for the role of Idamante as a tenor voice. K. 505 sets the same text for soprano, and it was written specifically for Nancy Storace, likely for her farewell concert that was given on February 23, 1787, at the Theater am Kärntnertor. The work consists of two sections: 1. CH'IO MI SCORDI DI TE? (recitative), and 2. NON TEMER, AMATO BENE (aria).
