He began to work on DIE SCHÖPFUNG (THE CREATION), Hob.XXI: 2 in 1796, aided by a libretto by Gottfried van Swieten that incorporates various texts from Milton’s Paradise Lost, Genesis, and the Psalms. Throughout the work, Haydn depicts the events of creation with Handelian choruses and colorful word-painting. The first public performance took place at the old Burgtheater in Vienna on March 19, 1799. Instrumentation: 3.2.2.2+1(CBsn): 2.2.3.0: Timp: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Soli STB in set: SATB Mix Chorus. Spurred by his friend Richard Strauss, he took some musical ideas from this collection and created HANSEL AND GRETEL (HÄNSEL UND GRETEL), a full-length opera based on the Grimm brothers' fairy tale. Completed in 1893, it received its first performance on December 23, 1893 at the Hoftheater in Weimar under the direction of Strauss. As a result, popular opinion has enduringly identified it with the Christmas season. The KNUSPERWALZER (GINGERBREAD WALTZ) from Act 3 is here arranged for orchestra by Hans Steiner. | 11318 | A552A74B-E928-4C04-AE8D-72FEA01DDCBE | B323SC | Division of Beat, Bk. 1A: Beginning | This series has been carefully developed and the material coordinated to achieve the maximum results employing the Breath Impulse Technique. The most exciting result of this band method is the vast improvement of the weakest areas of development for the beginner- tone quality, intonation and rhythmic accuracy. Immediate improvement is evident as the body becomes physically involved by using controlled breath impulses and the foot to subdivide a beat. This is not just another method book; it is a concept carefully designed to provide a professional approach to the teaching of beginning band students. | Band Method | |

The premiere took place on January 19, 1918, in Helsinki by the Akademiska sångföreningen with Olof Wallin conducting the choir and a brass septet.
