Tchaikovsky was commissioned to write the piece specifically for a concert to benefit Serb soldiers wounded while fighting (with help from Russian volunteers) against the Ottoman Empire. Hence, the title declared it a march for all Slavs. | Concert Band

His bossa nova song WAVE, featured in the title track of his 1967 album, was a major success for this brilliant Brazilian composer. The lyrics were written later that year by the composer himself. This treatment is filled with the harmonic surprises that make Mike Lewis' work so wonderful. | 11387 | A668B4F4-32EB-41D7-895C-FB2181A6D84C | S1048CB | Country Gardens for Symphonic Band | One of Grainger’s most popular piano encores was improvisations on English Morris Dance tunes that he programmed as COUNTRY GARDENS. Adolf Schmid’s 1925 orchestration displays many features that bear witness to his deep knowledge of Percy Grainger’s orchestral palette, making it ideal for symphonic wind band adaptation. Grainger’s mature concept of the wind band is seen in CHILDREN'S MARCH, LINCOLNSHIRE POSY, and LADS OF WAMPHRAY. With this knowledge in hand, Mark Rogers has created a wind-band scoring (appearing for the first time with full score) that should delight conductors looking for a concise introduction into the world of Percy Grainger. | Concert Band

| 11393 | A67A84E6-3F9F-4AA1-A5AA-13FF3419DEF7 | A805302 | Songs to Poems by Rueckert; No. 3: Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen, medium voice (E-flat, original key) | Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) composed SONGS TO POEMS BY RUECKERT (SONGS AFTER RÜCKERT; RÜCKERT-LIEDER) between 1901 and 1902. They were not conceived of as a cycle, with each song only connected by the poet Friedrich Rückert and the themes. But they were published together, first as SIEBEN LIEDER AUS LETZTER ZEIT (SEVEN SONGS OF LATTER DAYS) with two additional Mahler songs, then with only the five songs. They have simply come to be known as Rückert-Lieder and are now most frequently performed together, although Mahler did set other Rückert poems aside from these five. The third song, ICH BIN DER WELT ABHANDEN GEKOMMEN (I AM LOST TO THE WORLD), here presented in the original key of E-flat for medium voice, distills the lonely plight of the artist forgotten by the world but finding solace in art and introspection. Upon reflection, Mahler once declared, "It is truly me." Instrumentation: 0.1+EH.2.2: 2.0.0.0: Hp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Solo Med. Voice. Although this arrangement will work with a quintet, doubling only enhances the lush scoring. This versatile score provides for a variety of solo parts, including Flute or Oboe, Trumpet (Flugelhorn) or B-flat Clarinet, and Horn in F. | Solo Instrument and String Orchestra |
