JEAN SIBELIUS (1865-1957) wrote TWO MARCHES under his Op. 91 between 1917 and 1918. Both served as military marches and were originally written for male chorus and piano before the composer orchestrated them. The first, Op. 91a is titled MARCH OF THE FINNISH INFANTRY (JÄÄKÄRIEN MARSSI; JÄGER MARCH), and it set text by Heikko Nurmio to music. The premiere took place on January 19, 1918, in Helsinki by the Akademiska sångföreningen with Olof Wallin conducting the choir and a brass septet. Instrumentation: 2.2.2+BCl.2: 4.3.3.0: Timp.Perc(2-3): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).
