| 3761 | 3550AC55-8548-4EF4-B926-AE1DDA7A14BF | S131012 | Introduction, Theme and Variations | The work is based on two of Rossini’s most moving dramatic arias and remains one of the most popular virtuosic works for clarinet to this day. This critical edition by celebrated clarinetist Charles Neidich takes a fresh approach to this work, blending the 19th Century bel canto traditions which emphasize the emotional context of the arias in the musical notation with a master’s perspective on modern clarinet technique. Detailed annotations and historical background equip the clarinetist with an in-depth musical and technical facility to authentically convey the characteristic elegance and drama of Rossini’s style. The edition also includes a new cadenza by Neidich, selected from four of his original cadenzas as the one that best embraces the essence of the original work and aria inspiration. | Clarinet, Piano | |
| 3762 | 355C6299-9945-41AD-8911-9856DF201E0E | 20533416 | Gaudeamus Igitur | Gaudeamus Igitur (Latin: "So Let Us Rejoice") is a popular academic commencement song in many European countries, mainly performed at university and high-school graduation ceremonies. Despite its use as such, it is a jocular, light-hearted composition that is well-suited for performances of any kind. The hymn is thought to originate in a Latin manuscript from 1287. It is in the tradition of carpe diem ("seize the day"). This medium-difficulty arrangement for trombone or euphonium quartet includes both treble and bass clef parts. | Trombone or Euphonium Quartet | |

The work’s five movements are based on old folk and hymn melodies that the composer found intriguing. In the final movement, he combines the old melody with one of his own creation, to bring an especially original flavor to an old form. Stirring and lyrical, this has a myriad of programming options. | String Quartet

The work is in one movement. Like so many famous works for bassoon, it is based in F major. The piece is in a modified five-part rondo form, with the slow middle portion in Bb serving as the “B” theme. Rather jolly in nature, the work is intended to show off not only the happy nature of the bassoon, but also to demonstrate its expressive lyricism and dazzling technique. | Bassoon Solo and Wind Ensemble

Georges Bizet (1838-1875) was commissioned to write the incidental music for the play and actually performed the harmonium part in the premiere performance. The play received a poor reception, seeing only 21 runs. But Bizet went on to arrange the first concert suite the same year as the play's production, and the music quickly became, and has remained, popular on orchestral concert programmes. The second concert suite was arranged seven years later in 1879, four years after Bizet’s death. This arrangement was not created by Bizet, but by his friend and fellow contemporary composer Ernest Guiraud. Farandole is the fourth movement from the L'Arlésienne Suite No. 2.
