Willner and Heinz Reichert. Magda, the mistress of the wealthy Rambaldo, meets the poet and fortune teller, Prunier, at a party and is intrigued by his reading that she is a “swallow” and needs true love to be happy. Emboldened by this revelation, she meets and falls in love with Ruggero and leaves Rambaldo but returns to him at the end of the opera when she realizes that Ruggero’s family would not accept her past career as a courtesan. LA RONDINE premiered at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo in Monaco in March 1917. Puccini made three versions (1917, 1920, 1921) of this work but died before clearly deciding on a final version. Magda's Act I aria "Chi il bel sogno di Doretto", which she sings over a piano, memorably appeared in the 1986 film A Room with a View. | 3709 | 346FDF94-E0BF-43D8-96C6-88503DDD4AC3 | 60710005 | Six Sonatas for Solo Violin, Op. 27 | At a 1923 concert dedicated to the music of J.S. Bach put on by the great violinist Joseph Szigeti, fellow violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe (1858-1931) was deeply moved and inspired, leading to a sketch produced in twenty-four hours for a cycle of six sonatas for unaccompanied violin, each modeled after the style of a different virtuoso, "capturing something of each performer's style in the piece for whom it was written." The final result was Ysaÿe's Op. 27, SIX SONATAS FOR SOLO VIOLIN. The work has remained immensely popular since it was composed, having been interpreted and recorded many times by the very best violinists of the past 100 years. Sonatas and dedicatees: 1. Sonata in G minor (Joseph Szigeti); 2. Sonata in A minor (Jacques Thibaud); 3. Sonata in D minor (George Enescu); 4. Sonata in E minor (Fritz Kreisler); 5. Sonata in G Major (Mathieu Crickboom); 6. Sonata in E Major (Manuel Quiroga). Reprint edition. | Unaccompanied Violin | |

It is sometimes conjectured that the dramatic contrasts in the work were influenced by the recent death of his mother. The first performance took place at the National Theatre in Prague on May 16, 1883, Adolf ?ech conducting. It quickly proved popular with critics and audiences.
