| 11944 | AED2573E-9E90-45E5-90DC-FA2C3F0A0488 | 20710381 | Woodland Glade, The | In the late 1800s and early 1900s, many people entertained themselves by performing or having someone else perform chamber music in what would today be known as the "living room." This parlor music frequently consisted of simple, pleasing melodies. Rarely did this parlor music venture into the realm of the more progressive music of the day. One such melody is presented here in THE WOODLAND GLADE. Albert O. Davis has crafted a simple melody that works well as a developmental piece for improving legato playing. The magic here is the beauty of the simple melodic line. When played with proper support, it will be easy for a young player to sound much more mature. Versions for clarinet and violin, both with piano accompaniment, are available from the publisher. | Violin and Piano | |

| 11946 | AEDBAA9D-4D1A-4A7D-8519-054B4FA48DAC | A230202 | Faust, CG 4 (complete) | Charles Gounod (1818–1893) composed his grand opera FAUST, CG 4 between 1856 and 1859, inspired by Goethe’s drama and adapted through a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré. Premiered at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris on March 19, 1859, the opera was initially met with modest success but quickly grew in popularity, particularly after its 1869 revival at the Paris Opéra with the addition of ballet music in Act V. The story follows the aged scholar Faust, who, in despair, makes a pact with Méphistophélès to regain youth in exchange for his soul. With his newfound vigor, he seduces the innocent Marguerite, leading to love, betrayal, and tragedy, while Méphistophélès manipulates events with dark irony. Marguerite ultimately finds redemption through faith, contrasting with Faust’s doomed fate. Its memorable arias—such as Marguerite’s “Jewel Song,” “Valentin’s Prayer,” and the “Soldiers’ Chorus”—secured its place in the international repertoire. Today, FAUST remains one of Gounod’s most enduring works, a cornerstone of French Romantic opera, admired for its lyrical elegance, dramatic intensity, and richly orchestrated score that continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Prepared from the primary source, the orchestral score of 1895, there is careful musical reconsideration of the entire score, including a full set of percussion parts and music for the low clarinets. The Fennell edition replaces that by Clifford Barnes previously published by Ludwig Music. The Boyars were Russian aristocrats, also a privileged class in Romania. A great recording of this classic work is available through Ludwig Music on Brain CD, 32997503. | Concert Band | |

As such, they provide the clarinetist an artistic challenge, certainly more than a simple sight reading exercise.
