92418798B0EB-9CCD-484F-92F2-6B93518D5183S004601The Nutcracker, Op. 71 (complete ballet)The Nutcracker is a two-act "fairy ballet" written by Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky (1840-1893). Based on E. T. A. Hoffmann's 1816 short story, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King," the original 1892 production, choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov in Saint Petersburg, was not considered a success, although the 20-minute suite extracted by the composer was. Starting in the 1960s, the popularity of the full ballet has grown enormously, with frequent performances every Christmas season among the major ballet companies. 925087C0AEEC-CC38-408B-9ED1-4DF8054BE485EBM0670020Fly Blackbird: A Musical in Two ActsIn 1960, James V. Hatch and his UCLA colleague C. Bernard Jackson, collaborated to write the civil rights musical Fly Blackbird. Inspired by the student ‘sit-ins” in Greensboro, North Carolina, the growing movement for civil and human rights, and the pursuit of justice for African Americans throughout the United States, the production reflected the times and the means by which they believed change would come to American society. Opening at the Metropolitan Theater in Los Angeles in 1961, the multiracial cast and underlying message of the production challenged young people to stand up and use their voices to affect change. Fly Blackbird became a call to arms for students on the UCLA campus to join the movement, and won the 1962 Obie Award for Best Musical. 926087F3E407-8475-4AB6-94AD-39D01F524172M207291Sonata In C for Bassoon (or Violoncello) and Basso Continuo, Fwv N:C 1This edition of the significant bassoon sonata by Johann Friedrich Fasch (1688-1758), a contemporary of J.S. Bach, is published for the very first time using a manuscript copy found in the Archiepiscopal Academy Library in Paderborn. The dynamics, phrasing, and ornamentation have all been added by the editor, and a few obvious copying errors have been corrected. The range of the solo part and its melodious style render the work equally appropriate for bassoon or cello. The continuo part has been realized simply and sparingly, according to the practice of that time. Includes a foreword by editor Johannes Wojciechowski in German and English.Bassoon (or Violoncello) and Keyboard
