This chaconne - a repeated chord progression - generally descends in cycles, interrupted on occasion by Morse Code-like figures, communications of love and loss from a distant ship, departing. Above the chaconne pattern is a two-voice melody with the second voice following close behind in elegiac, expressive imitation. | Solo Piano

| 9204 | 86FF34B7-37C9-4DBF-90DC-669779559C1F | A929790 | Piano Concerto No. 2 (project scrapped) | Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) set to work on his Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 16, in 1912 and completed it the next year. But that version of the concerto is lost; the score was destroyed in a fire following the Russian Revolution. Prokofiev reconstructed the work in 1923, two years after finishing his Piano Concerto No. 3, and declared it to be "so completely rewritten that it might almost be considered [Piano Concerto] No. 4." Indeed its orchestration has features that clearly postdate the 1921 concerto. Performing as soloist, Prokofiev premiered this "No. 2" in Paris on May 8, 1924 with Serge Koussevitzky conducting. It is dedicated to the memory of Maximilian Schmidthof, a friend of Prokofiev's at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory who had killed himself in 1913. Movements: 1. Andantino-Allegretto (10-12 minutes), 2. Scherzo: Vivace (2-3 minutes), 3. Intermezzo: Allegro moderato (6-8 minutes), 4. Finale: Allegro tempestoso (10-11 minutes) Pno Solo: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(2-3): Str (9.8.7.6.5). | Pno Solo: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(2-3): Str (9.8.7.6.5) | |

| 9206 | 8712D17A-A695-40CB-9F73-E3415D1C4752 | A427902 | English Suite, An | Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry (1848-1918), whose works have found a revival in more recent decades, wrote An English Suite in 1915, though it remained unpublished until 1921, three years after his death. Including seven movements, two of the movements (4. Caprice and 7. Frolic) remained untitled, and the order of the movements was not set. Both issues were resolved by his student and copyist, Emily Daymond prior to publication. The string orchestra work premiered on October 17, 1922 at Queen's Hall in London, with the Promenade Concert Orchestra under Henry Wood. Movements: 1. Prelude, 2. In Menuet Style, 3. Saraband, 4. Caprice, 5. Pastoral, 6. Air, and 7. Frolic. 8-8-5-5-5 strings included in the set. | String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set) | |

| 9208 | 871A38DB-240B-4411-81B4-33225F6FC3C2 | A888402 | Le Corsaire: Pas de Deux | The ballet LE CORSAIRE, inspired by Lord Byron's poem, tells the story of the love between a pirate and a beautiful slave-girl against a backdrop of the open sea, remote grottoes, amid the hustle and bustle of an eastern bazaar, and the languid luxury of a sultan's harem. Premiered by the Ballet of the Académie Royale de Musique in Paris, France on January 23 1856, the original music was entirely by Adolphe Adam. Over the years, significant revisions and the addition of a substantial amount of new music has involved numerous other composers in the ballet, including Cesare Pugni, Léok Delibes, Ludwig Minkus, Pyotr Oldenburgsky, Ivan Trubetskoy, and Antoine Simon. Riccardo Drigo's (1846-1930) contribution of the "Pas de Deux" was requested by choreographer Marius Petipa's 1899 revival as a spectacular vehicle for the reigning ballerina, Pierna Legnani, and is now among classical ballet's most iconic and performed excerpts. This edition was orchestrated and revised by William McDermott in 1987. He wrote Spanish Dances, Op. 54 around 1884. It includes five pieces: 1. Zur Gitarre, 2. Serenade, 3. Spanischer Carneval, 4. L'Andalouse, 5. Vito. American solo cellist, composer and pedagogue, Emilio Colón, has edited this edition. | Cello and piano | |
| 9212 | 87239EFE-3C2F-4E06-B92B-3615C4453B71 | A679690 | Bohemian Danish Folksong, F. 130: Paraphrase (Boehmisk Dansk Foktetone) | In 1928, Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) composed the BOHEMIAN DANISH FOLKSONG, F. 130, to fulfill a commission from Danish Radio in honor of a visit from the Czech conductor Jaroslav Krupka. Unpublished after his death, the work derives its material from a pair of songs, a Czech folk tune and the Danish song Dronning Dagmar. The second song relates the death-bed confession of Queen Dagmar, wife of King Valdemar, in which she divulges her only earthly sin: lacing her sleeves on a Sunday. This Kalmus edition is paraphrased for string orchestra. Instrumentation: String Orchestra (8.8.5.5.5 in set). | String Orchestra (8.8.5.5.5 in set) | |

Composed of 150 vocal, chamber and solo piano pieces, the collection is grouped into fourteen albums, with the ordering of the works in each album not reflective of the dates or sequence of composition. Written as salon music, intended for performance in the privacy of Rossini's own drawing room, the entire collection was sold by Rossini's widow following his death in 1868. This edition of Vol. 6, titled ALBUM POUR LES ENFANTS DÉGOURDIS (ALBUM FOR LIVELY CHILDREN), is written for solo piano and includes ten pieces across two books: M160591 and M160691. Edited by Sergio Cafaro. | Solo Piano
