Every effort has been made by the arranger to make this setting sound as much as possible like the orchestra music of Tchaikovsky. Some careful revisions and tastefully stylistic additions were made in order to make this score more effective for large ensemble as opposed to solo piano. This setting is carefully cross-cued for younger bands and for bands without full instrumentation. Movements: 1. Russian Folk Song, 2. Morning Prayer, 3. Mazurka, 4. Polka, 5. WaltzConcert Band

Solo and PianoEthelbert Nevin (1862-1901) wrote the Rosary for voice and piano in 1898, and it is one of the pieces for which he is best known. Floyd Harris has arranged the work here for a trombone trio with piano accompaniment. The work is a perfect selection for beginning brass players to take to contest or play at a recital. Versions exist for trumpet/cornet solo, duo, or trio, trombone solo, duo, or trio, and baritone solo or duo. Each version has piano accompaniment.Baritone B.C. Solo and Piano

Written in 4/4 time but felt in a lazy 2, every section gets a chance to play the catchy two-bar rhythmic motif that holds the whole piece together. That unifying motif is found upside down, shortened to one bar, and even played backwards as the piece progresses. Oh, and to add to the fun, a couple of nice ling melodies are presented over the top of the motif from time to time.String Orchestra

Feel the gentle trot of your trusty steed as an eighth note "duk-a-Dak-a" rhythm is traded about by all sections but the basses. While mostly diatonic, the basses do have a passing D# in the A section, and there are a few E flats and F naturals in the moodier B section. Legato passages that contrast the clip—clop rhythm come and go as you progress through the work, conjuring images of the open prairie in this highly evocative piece.String Orchestra, Percussion

569253333D30-6D1C-413F-8458-24444AB8DDCCM915502Green BushesThis arrangement by Frank Pappajohn, taken from the original full orchestra score, is another of the newly authorized 'Grainger Society Approved Editions' by LudwigMasters Publications. While other arrangements exist with cuts in the music, this is the only complete version that is available for band. Composed between 1905 and 1906, it was apparently a quite well-known melody as Grainger collected ten different versions of it over his career, using one version as the concluding movement of his Lincolnshire Posy. This is an important new addition to the repertoire that everyone should have.Symphonic Band

56945339900B-23CB-43BD-BCA9-459DA30EC1FES771CBAria on a ChaconneThis piece was orginally composed for solo organ, and was inspired by the harmonic flute and rich strings of the French Romantic syle "Bedient" pipe organ at St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas. This arrangement for band combines both the triple meter repeated harmonic progression of the chaconne and the solo aria of the Baroque period within an arch form structure.Concert Band
5695533ab8ce-9e39-11f0-a418-0022482c968250250249Bolero for StringsBolero is probably the best-known work of the French Impressionist composer Maurice Ravel (1875-1937). The piece was commissioned by Ida Rubenstein in 1928 and performed at the Paris Opera that same year. Bolero has a hypnotic rhythm and a simple melody that repeat over and over for nearly 15 minutes, with the orchestra gradually increasing in volume and intensity. Ravel’s genius is evident in his orchestration where he assigns a different sound color to each iteration. This version of Ravel’s Bolero reduces the duration of the piece by two thirds while still maintaining the long buildup of volume, intensity, and heavy orchestration. The arranger has masterfully scored a large symphonic work for string orchestra while maintaining the integrity of the original Spanish/Cuban dance. Violins, violas, and celli all get to try their hands at this famous melody.String Orchestra, Snare Drum
5696533ABBB0-D8C0-41F3-8CC7-A27479FCC89850100073Rolling ThunderThere’s never been another screamer quite like it! Fillmore’s venerable warhorse has been given a thorough looking-over by one of the foremost band conductors of our time. Drawing on his years of experience with the United States Air Force Band, Colonel Gabriel has meticulously edited this formidable march for the modern band. Rolling Thunder has long been an admired and often performed work in the symphonic band repertoire. Composed by (James) Henry Fillmore in 1916, this march was a favorite of conductor Merle Evans and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. The work is dedicated to Ed Hicker, who as far as the little documentation shows, was an actor and musician in the Cincinnati, Ohio area and who may have performed with Fillmore in the many pit orchestra engagements of his youth. Rolling Thunder is unique within the march oeuvre, in that its softest dynamic marking is forte! In later printings, Fillmore added the subtitle “A Trombone Ace,” perhaps a tip-of-the-hat to his own instrument and that the trombones and other bass instruments are playing to the fore from beginning to end. Fillmore also indicates that the march should be played Furioso. So sit back, close your eyes and enjoy the exciting, death-defying sounds of the circus—as only Henry Fillmore (our Uncle Henry) can do.Concert Band
