The poem relates the first celebration of May’s Eve, first practiced by the Bavarian Druids who masquerade as demons to frighten the Christians living nearby. The composer conducted the first public performance on January 10, 1833 at the Sing-Akademie in Berlin. In 1843, he published the final revised version as OPUS 60. The composer's intention was to have the two men, Josef Kruis and Jan Pelikán, play the violin parts while Dvo?ák performed on the viola. The work proved to difficult for Kruis, which prompted Dvo?ák to write an easier string trio, MINIATURES (Drobnosti), Op. 75a/B. 149 for the men. Dvo?ák also created an arrangement for violin and piano, ROMANTIC PIECES (4), Op. 75/B. 150. The TERZETTO premiered on March 30, 1887, in Prague, performed by Karel Ond?í?ek, Jan Buchal, and Jaroslav Š?astný. Movements: 1. Introduzione. Allegro ma non troppo; 2. Larghetto; 3. Scherzo. Fragments of the tune enter with some cool syncopated patterns; some of these patterns come back only to be matched with a harmony change. There are some challenges, but sections support each other and move together. A nice change of pace at the holidays! | String Orchestra

Pinkerton intends to divorce Butterfly when he returns to the United States, but she believes that the marriage will last forever. When Pinkerton returns to Japan with his new wife Kate, Butterfly commits seppuku with her father’s knife after placing an American flag in the hand of her son. The opera contains one of the repertoire’s best known soprano arias, Un bel di, vedremo in which Butterfly longs for Pinkerton to return to Japan. The original premiere of a version in two acts on February 17, 1904 at La Scala in Milan was a disaster, resulting in Puccini withdrawing that version and substantially rewriting the opera. The second version was in three acts, and it premiered on May 28, 1904 in Brescia to much greater success. In 1906 and 1907, Puccini created a third and fourth version for the Metropolitan Opera in New York and for Paris respectively. Finally, again in 1907, Puccini made the final revisions to the opera for a fifth version, and this is the one most often performed today, referred to as the "Standard Version." | 5632 | 52505332-9e3c-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | W701191 | Concertino for Trombone, Op. 4 | When Karl Traugott Queisser, trombonist in the Gewandhaus Orchestra, asked Felix Mendelssohn to compose a trombone concerto for him, the composer declined due to time restraints. The task went to the concertmaster, Ferdinand David (1810-1873). Completing it in 1837, he dedicated his Concertino in E-flat major for Trombone and Orchestra, Op. 4 to Queisser, who first performed it with the Gewandhaus under the direction of Mendelssohn. Instantly successful, the piece consists of three movements, performed without break. It has become one of the most-performed trombone concertos. | 5635 | 52678A09-7A73-4175-A25E-4BFD9AB24C95 | X240006 | Dream Etudes, Book III | Dream Etudes, Book III (2002) for tuba was commissioned for and is dedicated to Mark Nelson, and was inspired by his playing of and support for the contemporary tuba repertoire. It is a set of three brief pieces for tuba. Like the first two books of Dream Etudes (Book I for solo clarinet, 1999; Book II for solo piano, 2001), each movement has an “action title” which inspired its musical content and procedures. The overall title of the work refers to the overlapping and juxtapositions of elements of the basic materials (which run throughout all three movements), as if remembered through a dream. | Tuba Solo
