It features various essential techniques and consists of three short movements. The first, entitled Raindrops, is a lively character study which features string crossings as an important technical element. Latin Serenade is a medium-tempo waltz which alternates between rhythmic pizzicato riffs and a lyrical arco melody. The final movement, Country Dance, is a romping 6/8 toe-tapper which highlights the player’s ability to convey different articulations, dynamics, and bow control. The middle section features pizzicato triple stops. This work was recorded by Wesley Baldwin on Albany Records. Total performance time is approximately 9 minutes. | Cello, Piano | |

While he conducted the entire suite on three performances in 1954 and 1955 with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Miami Summer Symphony, in 1956 Anderson withdrew "The Campbells Are Coming", "Bonnie Dundee", and "Turn Ye To Me" because he was not satisfied with them. Anderson recorded "The Bluebells of Scotland" on June 25, 1954. He later arranged the work for concert band, and now sheet music for "The Bluebells of Scotland" is available for both full orchestra and concert band from the publisher. A major part of the orchestral repertoire, this symphony’s melodic material was influenced by the music of Native Americans and African American spirituals he heard during his tenure in North America, while his sense of America’s “wide open spaces” after a visit to Iowa’s prairies also inspired the feeling of the work. It was premiered by the New York Philharmonic Society, Anton Seidl conducting, on December 16, 1893. This Critical Edition based on the composer's manuscript was edited by Otakar Šourek.
