| 3115 | 2C31DC54-5C4B-4B22-BC33-142F0C93E1EB | S952CB | Citadel | Citadel was composed to commemorate the 150th anniversary of The University of Kansas (1865 to 2015.) It begins with optional offstage chimes (one or two sets [opt.]) to depict the daily ringing of the bells in KU’s World War II Memorial Campanile. Trumpets introduce a fanfare-like figure that quickly evolves into the opening theme of the work. As the music settles and becomes softer, a saxophone choir introduces a slower, more pensive middle theme intended to describe the university's academic nature. A quiet moment at the end of this section hints at the famous “Rock Chalk Chant” in solo horn before the chimes and fanfare return to end the work in a final, dramatic outburst of sound and color. | Concert Band | |
| 3116 | 2c34f189-9e3b-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | M800190 | L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1 | L'ARLÉSIENNE (THE WOMAN FROM ARLES), a play produced in 1872, was adapted from an 1868 novel by the author Alphonse Daudet. Georges Bizet (1838-1875) was commissioned to write the incidental music for the play and actually performed the harmonium part in the premiere performance. The play received a poor reception, seeing only 21 runs. But Bizet went on to arrange the first concert suite the same year as the play's production, and the music quickly became, and has remained, popular on orchestral concert programs. The second concert suite was arranged seven years later in 1879, four years after Bizet’s death. Movements: I. Prélude; II. Menuet; III. Adagietto; IV. Carillon. This version of L'ARLESIENNE SUITE No. 1 for string orchestra is arranged by William Ryden. | String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set) | |

| 3120 | 2C3C8110-7194-4CA7-A9F6-EEECE58761FA | B301702 | Egmont Overture for Band | Written between October 1809 and June 1810, Ludwig van Beethoven’s (1770-1827) Egmont, Op. 84 is a set of ten incidental music pieces for the 1787 play of the same name by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The work premiered on June 15th, 1810. Egmont tells the story of the heroic Count Egmont, who was condemned to death for having taken a valiant stand against oppression. The powerful and expressive overture became an unofficial anthem of the 1956 Hungarian revolution and remains very popular to this day. This LudwigMasters edition was arranged by Theodore M. Tobani. | Concert Band |
