In three movements, it sets the text of Psalm 149:1-3, the third stanza of "Nun lob, mein Seel, den Herren," and Psalm 150:2 & 6 to music using a double choir and a small orchestra. 16782F51A73D0-0E50-457E-84D9-5329A393AABDA806402Tombeau de Couperin, Le, M. 68: Suite (composer's transcription)Originally written as a suite for solo piano, Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) later orchestrated four movements from Le Tombeau de Couperin in 1919 (Prélude, Forlane, Menuet, and Rigaudon). This orchestral version was premiered in February of 1920 by conductor Rhené-Baton and the Pasdeloup Orchestra. Each movement of the suite was written in memory of Ravel's friends who had died fighting in World War I. It has remained one of Ravel’s more popular works, with a ballet by the same name choreographed decades later by George Balanchine. 16798f535f1fd-9e39-11f0-a418-0022482c9682A640590Polonaise in B-flat for Violin and Small Orchestra, D. 580POLONAISE IN B-FLAT MAJOR, D. 580 is one of two pieces that Franz Schubert (1797-1828) wrote for violin and orchestra; the other work is the KONZERTSTÜCK, D. 345. One of his patrons, Leopold Sonniethner, wrote that he was fond of domestic balls and dances. The polonaise, popularized in the previous century, is treated simply by the composer in ABA form with an attractive central G minor section. The manuscript, now lost, was dated September 1817. The premiere took place on September 27, 1818 at the Vienna orphanage, with Schubert’s brother Ferdinand performing the solo part.
