| 16724 | F462C518-600F-4959-B16D-1434898BBFE8 | B234CO | 20 Solo Studies (accompaniment) | Marco Bordogni (1788-1856) of Italy, from whom these studies were adapted, was one of the leading operatic tenors and teachers of his time. These studies have been selected and transcribed from the Bordogni's "Vocalises" for instrumental use, and they have been systematically and progressively arranged to develop technique and musicianship through the interpretation of melody in all its varied forms of expression. The aim is the development of a beautiful, singing tone, and the attainment of the greatest fluency, not as an end in itself, but as a means of achieving artistic interpretation of all music. These Studies develop breath control, articulation (especially legato), a tasteful use of ornaments (which need not be performed by the less experienced student), and a command of the instrument. | Trumpet | |

Originally titled WALLACHIAN DANCES after the Moravian Wallachia region, Janá?ek later changed the title when the region's name also changed, since it reflects folk songs from that specific area. Composing the collection between 1888-1890, the original version saw its premiere on January 11, 1889, in Olomouc, although Janá?ek began to rework the title in 1925, making a new selection and ordering of numbers, along with changes in orchestration. This revised version was published in 1928 and is what is used in this E.F. Kalmus edition. Movements: 1. Starodávný ("the Ancient One"); 2. Požehnaný ("the Blessed"); 3. Dymák (portrays a blacksmith at work); 4. Starodávný II; 5. ?eladenský (probably from Lachian village ?eladná); 6. Pilky (in preperation for winter). These solo fantasies of Telemann have been beloved late Baroque works by flutists for centuries. | 16734 | F485503B-76C2-4550-B7CC-F64857724166 | S717 | Apocalyptic Dreams | In 1984, the composer wrote a tone poem for symphonic band centered around the book of Revelation, the concluding book of the bible. After that time, he continued to be interested in describing the events of the Apocalypse through music, but on a much grander scale. This resulting work is structured in the form of a three movement symphony with each movement bearing reference to a portion of the end of time narrative. I. "The Vision"- This first movement sets the general mood for the entire symphony and depicts, through music, the Apostle John's nearly unimaginable propetic vision of the end of the world. II. "Cataclysmic Events"- Marked ferocious, the second movement alludes to the chain of cosmic disasters accompanying the Apocalypse. III. "Messianic Kingdom"- The thried movement begins with the pealing of chimes, annoucing the arrival of the Messianic Kingdom, followed by a chorale and interlude that depicts the second coming of Christ and proclaims the pureness of the new kingdom. A fanfare in faster tempo announces the conclusion of the movement, quoting "Break Forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light, the celebrated hymn tune by Johann Schop. The symphony ends in grandeur, evoking hope for all humanity. Commissioned by the University of Georgia Bands, H. Dwight Satterwhite, Director of Bands. | Concert Band | |
| 16735 | F4927666-659B-4541-A8C0-2345B15189DB | RMR4CB | Overture for Wind Band, Op. 24 | Felix Mendelssohn composed the first of his two works for wind band in 1824 at the age of 15. This work, originally entitled "Notturno", was scored for eleven winds. It was later rescored for a much larger contingent and published as "Overture for Wind Band." The work is in two main sections, an extended andante introduction and the main body of the overture marked allegro vivace. While not generally considered one of Mendelssohn's masterworks, the "Overture of Band" is nonetheless a valuable part of the band's early repertoire. This edition replaces the obsolete instruments with their modern versions and resolves many inconsistencies that plagued the original score. | Concert Band | |
