Like the other twelve, it was written as a tribute to early Classical symphonies by composers such as Haydn, J.C. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, and Mozart, a feature much more obvious in the first six as they were more imitative. The second grouping, starting with Sinfonia No. 7, show more of the composer's emerging personal style. Mendelssohn composed most of the thirteen works in three movements, but his eighth is an exception to the rule, with four movements instead. One of Mendelssohn's favorites, and among his most successful works, he loved the work so much that he began orchestrating it with winds, brass, and timpani only days after completing the string orchestra version, making it his first full orchestra work. The second movement includes three viola parts, so a string count of 8-8-2/2/2-5-5 are included in this set. | String Orchestra (8-8-2/2/2-5-5 in set) | |

| 15326 | E11C0392-845E-443C-8D6C-425738C313CE | 20440402 | Woodland Glade, The | In the late 1800s and early 1900s, many people entertained themselves by performing or having someone else perform chamber music in what would today be known as the "living room." This parlor music frequently consisted of simple, pleasing melodies. Rarely did this parlor music venture into the realm of the more progressive music of the day. One such melody is presented here in THE WOODLAND GLADE. Albert O. Davis has crafted a simple melody that works well as a developmental piece for improving legato playing. The magic here is the beauty of the simple melodic line. When played with proper support, it will be easy for a young player to sound much more mature. Versions for clarinet and violin, both with piano accompaniment, are available from the publisher. | Clarinet and Piano | |

The composer repurposed the music in a Suite from Twinkletoes, and this single movement has been extracted here. This dance-work would be a wonderful addition to any pops-style program.
