14243D12DED3D-C9B8-4E08-AF12-76A801C78E36X130005One of a KindONE OF A KIND was written for a farewell performance by clarinetist David Lewis on the occasion of his retirement from Ohio University. It attempts to blur the boundaries between "serious" music and various popular styles. In three movements, plus an opening cadenza, the piece exploits the sound of the clarinet with a "virtual perpetual motion machine" sound, jazz and blues, and Klezmer style.B-flat Clarinet Solo
14244D13010B8-E115-4F6C-9623-983ACC4D9663A186402Merry Wives of Windsor, The: Overture (Der Lustigen Weiber von Windsor)DIE LUSTIGEN WEIBER VON WINDSOR (THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR), the only German-language opera by Otto Nicolai (1810-1849), was primarily composed in the years 1845 and 1846. Set to a libretto by Salomon Mosenthal, based on Shakespeare’s play, its postponed premiere gave Nicolai the opportunity to make some last-minute revisions. The first performance took place on March 9, 1849 at the Königliches Opernhaus in Berlin under the direction of the composer. Initially unsuccessful, it was cancelled after only four performances. After his death, the opera gained popularity. Sir John Falstaff, fond of drink and in search of lost youth, sends two identical love letters to two married women who quickly uncover his schemes. Appealing to players of all ages and skill levels, the work eschews the dry concert hall in favor of sheer drumming exuberance. At the same time, the writing is skillful and pedagogically correct, making this an ideal concert or contest choice.Multiple Percussion Sextet

It is believed that the melody used in the outer passages of this dance is indeed the work of Brahms. The middle section is based on the Tolna Wedding Dance, a popular dance during the 1840s.String Orchestra
14252D143E218-6AFE-48D9-9A54-D4ED16748B6AM255491Etudes, Op. 18Composed in 1918, ETUDES, Op. 18 for solo Piano includes three studies by Béla Bartók (1881-1945) influence by Chopin, Debussy and Schoenberg. The first etude has a motor punctuated with the accents of Hungarian folk music and language. The second etude is a bold expansive melody with arpeggiated waves. Evident of Schoenberg influence, the third etude includes irregular rhythms and meter changes. Later in Barok’s life he admitted to a friend that he could not play these ETUDES as they proved to be a technical feat. Reprint edition.Solo Piano

They were not performed until 24th November 1919 together with the first performance of the final version of the fifth symphony. The soloist for the humoresques was Paul Cherkassky. According to the critics, he came close to being drowned out by the orchestra. This publication is the first quality reprint edition of the Humoresque No. 3 in G minor.
