The key signature may look like E-flat major, but when the flatted seventh is used it has a modal sound. The first and last songs are fiddle tunes; for contrast, a sad lyrical tune is sandwiched in between. The parts are accessible to young players, everyone plays the melody at some point, and ensemble playing is a critical element. Players and audiences will enjoy this trip to rural America. | Bassoon Trio

Bach, these transcribed organ works (known as 'The Great' Fugue) are wonderful pieces to hear and play. Carefully edited for the colors available in wind bands, the works (most likely independently composed) offer lush chorales, hints of chromaticism, and, of course, the exciting dovetailing of many voices as the classic fugue unwinds until, finally, it concludes in a welcome cadence. | Concert Band

This work "for piano and violin," reversing the usual order, was dedicated to his teacher as the Schola Cantorum, Vincent d' Indy, who roiled the contemporary waters with his outspoken opposition to Impressionism, though he did recognize Roussel's genius despite the latter's stylistic adventures. Movements: I. Lent - Très animé - Lent, II. Assez animé - Très lent - Assez animé, III. Très animé - Très moderé - Très animé. | Violin & Keyboard
