13526C60C7FC0-9AAD-437F-BA69-981C97220DF1X772009OutsiderThe title suggests a character that is rough and outside the mainstream, unsheltered and ready to face the forces of nature head-on. This character is captured in music featuring insistent melodic figures articulated in relentless sixteenth-notes. One tempo pervades the entire 11-minute work: "not fast, but always with a feeling of surging forward."2+Picc.2.3+BCl+EbCl+Eb Clto Cl: SATB Saxes: 2+ Bb Picc+2 Flg.4.3.2 Euph.2: Bass: Timp.Perc(4): Pno.Hp

(from Alexander's Feast)George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) completed the oratorio Alexander's Feast, HWV 75 in 1736, and it was throughout his life and after one of his most consistently successful works. Written to celebrate Saint Cecilia's Day, it describes a banquet held by Alexander the Great in a Persian city where the musician Timotheus sings, arousing various moods in Alexander until he burns down the city in revenge for his dead Greek soldiers. Revenge! Timotheus Cries! from the beginning of Part 2 is a bass aria that begins the incitement for Alexander to take his vengeful action. R. Winston has arranged this for numerous brass instrument solos with piano accompaniment for the developing to intermediate musician, and these are a wonderful selection for recital or contest. Versions for cornet/trumpet/euphonium T.C., trombone/euphonium B.C., and tuba are available from the publisher.Baritone B.C. and Piano

13532C61962BB-9A4D-4F76-9397-1F37674FB96CSU526Lyrical Concerto (bassoon)Proctor composed Lyrical Concerto for serpent enthusiast Craig Kridel. The work was later champoined by bass trombonist Douglas Yeo who ultimately performed it with the Boston Pops Orchestra conducted by John Williams. In three connected movements, the concerto explores in a clever and unpretentious way the full range of the performer's capabilities, and includes an optional part for medeival cupped bells inspired by Craig Kridel's performance. Although specifically composed for serpent, this cheerful and melodious music is also well-suited and has been transcribed for bassoon, baritone sax, bass clarinet, trombone/euphonium, and tuba.Bassoon, Piano
