| 1325 | 11FFB781-9605-4222-AFBA-524189B047AF | S512004 | 12 Duets for Two Violins, Vol. 2 | This edition of the TWELVE DUETS FOR TWO VIOLINS by Mozart is based on the 1798 edition by J.André in O?enbach and the 1800 edition by Artaria & Co. in Vienna. These duets are masterful adaptations of Mozart’s original settings; (piano sonatas, violin - piano duets, a string quartet and the CLARINET TRIO). Unfortunately, the identities of these eighteenth century transcribers are unknown. Judging by their expert handling of the original material, they belonged to Mozart’s inner circle and most likely were his disciples. While maintaining Mozart’s original phrasing, this edition includes contemporary bowings and ?ngerings. Included in Volume 2: 4. Duet for Two Violins in C Major K 296; 5. Duet for Two Violins in A minor K 310; 6. Duet for Two Violins in D Major K 575. | Violin Duo | |

The original hymn by Arthur H. Brown has appeared in at least seven hymnals. Solidly in the medium grade of difficulty, it remains in the key of G throughout. When Christ Was Born of Mary Free was probably composed in 1859 and appeared in the 1916 hymnal approved by the United States Episcopal Church and Christmas Carols New and Old (1870, 1871, and 1878). It was printed in at least seven hymnals over the years. The words are from a traditional carol taken from the fifteenth century Harleian Manuscript. | Full Orchestra | |
| 1336 | 12233841-9149-42ED-BB55-A8FEE0B07962 | EBM0610673 | Circus Overture: Into the Eighth Decade for Orchestra | Bolcom’s curtain raiser, Circus Overture, was written in honor of Slatkin’s 70th and premiered by the conductor and Boston Symphony, which commissioned it. It’s a 5-minute riot, full of marching evocations of the midway - or perhaps the parade of life? - along with lickety -split wind lines, exaggerated tempo changes and a snippet of Ellingtonian talking brass, including a muted trombone growling out a reference to Chopin’s ‘Funeral March.’ That’s vintage Bolcom wit: Slatkin, who has championed the Ann Arbor composer for decades, specifically asked him not to quote ‘Happy Birthday.’ The Detroit Free Press, Oct. 10, 2014. Subtitled "Into the Eighth Decade," versions for both orchestra and band are available for rent. | 3(3dblPicc).2(+EH).2(+BCl/EbSopCl).2(+CBsn): 4.3.2(+BsTbn).1: Timp.Perc(3): Pno(dblCel).Hp: Str | |
