| 13182 | C083FFA0-B440-417C-BD28-0BCA440557A8 | B396602 | Gasparilla Day: Uncharacteristic March | GASPARILLA DAY was written for the Tampa Mardi Gras-type festival which takes place the second week of each February. The work was first performed during the 1971 Gasparilla Day parade by the King High School band of Tampa, under the direction of Tom Luter. The festival commemorates the visits of the 18th century pirate, José Gaspar, to the Tampa Bay area; so far, no buried treasure has turned up, but hope remains alive in some quarters. Originally intended for parade use, it was conceived as an alternative to the usual predictable common-time march, and is suitable for the adventurous high school or college band. It is perfectly suited for use both indoors and outdoors. | Concert Band | |

Mellower than the Octet written by Beethoven that same year, both works still share the same key and instrumentation despite the difference in feel. | 0.2.2.2: 2.0.0.0

David Martin does not disappoint in this tongue-in-cheek work for young band. The bass line is repetitive yet clever, the melody cute but not cloying, and you’ll find yourself absent-mindedly wiping your chin with a tissue! | Concert Band

| 13191 | C0C5A52F-70C5-48AC-8D13-890F684A1951 | X539001 | About Trains | These are three musical portraits of the sounds and images associated with trains. I. "On Track" is energetic, focusing on the forceful rhythms of a train speeding down the tracks with the reiterated rhythmic patterns (wheels-on-tracks) passed from one cello to another and the more sustained whistle sounds floating above. II. "Lonesome Whistle" is a blues-oriented movement in a ballad idiom, with a texture that is often solo versus accompaniment during the verse sections, punctuated by refrains in a homophonic, 'barbershop' style. The listener might hear reference to Harold Arlen's "Blues in the Night". III. "Coming 'Round" is a set of theme and variations on a well-known American train song. The six variations are entitled: "Ornamentation", "Tango", "Lament", "Cowboy", "Sounds", and "Final Reprise" | 6 Cello | |

| 13194 | C0D60C49-3144-4DCE-8B14-E521EDEF117B | A911490 | Autumn Leaves | The iconic tune Autumn Leaves "Les feuilles mortes" by Hungarian-born composer Joseph Kosma hardly requires an introduction to jazz aficionados. The music was originally set to French lyrics by Jacques Prévert, and later English lyrics by Johnny Mercer. This classic orchestra arrangement by Alfred Reed showcases the rich harmonic language that underlines the melody with thick, sonorous orchestration. This piece can be the perfect change of pace when placed among works with quicker tempi or more rigorous demands on the players.
