| 10807 | 9D5C6509-930E-4E6D-817C-3F5E6AB19A62 | RMR15CB | Concerto No. 1 in f Minor for Clarinet | Carl Maria Von Weber is well known for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn works. He was commissioned to write two clarinet pieces by King Max Joseph after Heinrich Barmann, clarinetist of the Royal Orchestra of Germany, premiered Weber's Concertino, Op. 26. This concerto is written in the purest Romantic vein of the Arthur Freischutz. The 3/4 meter of the allegro is uncommon, the middle section is straight-forward, and the final rondo is characterized by vivacity, elegance, and spirit, and permits the soloist to display freely all the resources of his/her virtuosity. | Concert Band | |

| 10811 | 9D65D5F0-ACD3-46ED-9696-155C895FC738 | R48 | Adagio from Symphony No. 7 (Mvt. II) | The monumental second movement of Anton Bruckner's Seventh Symphony (marked sehr feierlich--with great solemnity), is one of the most celebrated works of its type. Structurally, it combines the classical 'theme and variations' technique with features of sonata form, modified to suit Bruckner's own Romantic inspiration. The first theme, often referred to as the "Adagio of Premonition," was composed soon after Bruckner received the news of Wagner's fatal illness. This gives way to the more lyrical second theme, in F-sharp major, which is stated twice, separated by a contrasting middle section. The development section consists of extensive variations on the first theme, interspersed with statements of the second, ornamented with various obbligati. This movement is generally regarded as a "funeral ode" on the death of Richard Wagner, Bruckner's idol. Yet the actual "Funeral Music" (according to Bruckner himself) does not occur until the coda, where it is introduced by a shattering crash of cymbals. "At this point," wrote Bruckner, "the news of the Master's death reached me." | Concert Band | |

The solos are reminiscent of the call and response often found in early American hymnody, and the chord structure is largely diatonic. Melodies are characterized by steps and small leaps, typical of much vocal music. | Concert Band | |

| 10820 | 9D88CD0D-49C2-49C6-ADC7-19A21082271A | A281202 | Faust: Act III, Cavatine: Salut demeure chaste et pure (Salve dimora) (tenor) | CHARLES GOUNOD (1818-1893) was a prolific French composer in the mid 1800’ s, but he was not well recognized by his peers or the public until his opera Faust was first performed in Paris in 1859. The opera remains today as one of the most dramatic and popular in the repertoire. The libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, based on the two-part play by Goethe, tells the story of the aging philosopher in search of lost youth. Selling his soul to the devil, he is transformed into a young man, but when he falls in love with the virtuous Marguerite, her own soul hangs in the balance. In Act 3, having sent the devil on an errand to find a gift for her, Faust sings "Salut demeure chaste e pure" in praise of her unrivalled purity.
