| 10769 | 9CB458BE-5E37-4DDA-AB68-181B0A94DB9B | 20533329 | Long and Short of It | Long and Short of It was named for the many levels of contrast dealt with by this work. There are three short movements for four long (low brass) instruments. By placing the various movements into the keys of Bb, C, F, and Ab, the young trombonist will have the opportunity to work the slide in all positions (long and short). Finally, Long and Short of It uses both legato and staccato playing (long and short) that is quite characteristic in trombone literature. Already used for many years as an instructional tool for younger trombonists, this work has been performed many times at solo and ensemble contests. Mr. Hall has dedicated this work to his friend and fellow teacher, Charles Bradley of Mansfield, Ohio. | Trombone or Baritone Quartet | |

Respighi dedicated the piece to prominent music patron Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge. The second song, The Adoration of the Magi is based on Botticelli's depiction of the nativity. As he struggled to invest himself in the subject of Joseph and Potiphar’s wife, the process of writing the music gave him a considerable amount of difficulty. It premiered at the Paris Opera on May 14, 1914, under the direction of the composer. In 1947, he extracted a symphonic fragment of music from the ballet, TRV 231A. Max Reiter conducted the first performance of this version for reduced orchestra on February 26, 1949. Instrumentation: 3(3rd d. Picc).2+EH.2+BCl.3+CBsn: 4.3.3.1: Timp. Perc(4): 2Hp.Cel.Org.
