Affiliating herself with nationalist composers such as Saint-Saëns and Gounod, her style was very much rooted in both Romantic and French tradition. Her tuneful and highly accessible works were also tremendous favorites in the United States. Chaminade's Album of Songs was originally published between 1892 and 1893 and included thirty-seven total songs across two volumes, with versions for both high voice and low voice made available. LudwigMasters has made all thirty-seven songs available, with three books for each volume, totaling six books each for both high and low voices. Included in Volume 1, Book 1: Ritounelle (W265, 1886); Madrigal (W266, 1886); Les rêves (W280, 1891); L'idéal (W269, 1888); Voisinage (W270, 1888); La fiancée du soldat (W267, 1887); Plaintes d'amour (W281, 1891). Rosemonde (W298, 1878) was originally included in this collection, but was later replaced with Voisinage. Rosemonde is available separately from the publisher (60812005).High Voice and Piano

His composition Valsa do Primeiro Baile is one of his first compositions to fulfill this idea. The title means “Waltz of the First Ball” and is intended to re-create the nostalgic times of old fashion balls that were common in his hometown of Campinas, located in the interior of São Paulo. Valsa do Primeiro Baile has a very lyrical melody and “portrays a very naïve love that invites us to dance, and transports us to a universe of sweetness and kindness.” João Victor Bota arranged Valsa do Primeiro Baile while retaining the very rich musical idea of the original composition.Concert Band

104919915C411-4E2E-4311-8610-C934F136D6DBSU295SonatinaThe Sonatina in G major, Op. 100, is another work that dates from Dvorák's stay in America. Its genesis can be traced to his visit to Minnehaha Falls, Minnesota in September 1893, where he was immediately inspired to write a melody that later became the basis for the Sonatina's slow movement. Later in December, his daughter Otilie wrote to her godfather Alois Göbl and reported that her father has recently completed a sonata for violin and piano intended for herself and her brother Tony. Eventually Dvorák dedicated the work to all six of his children, but he also told his publisher Simrock that the work would appeal to adults as well. Indeed, Dvorák succeeded in creating a work that, while not technically demanding, is pleasing to both performers and listeners. The work is in four compact movements and displays many of the characteristics, such as pentatonic motives, syncopation, and above all a gift for flowing melody, that are typical of Dvorák's mature style.Oboe and Piano

10498992B8BFF-4CBD-4CF1-8D4A-61EEEAF7D683A159402Hansel and Gretel (Haensel und Gretel): HexenrittHÄNSEL UND GRETEL, a Märchenspiel (Fairy-tale opera) in three acts, was written by Engelbert Humperdinck (1854-1921) in 1890-1892, with a libretto by his sister Adelheid Wette. Humperdinck began to work on the opera upon the request of his sister for a set of four songs for her children to perform, based on the well-known Brothers Grimm tale. From these four songs, the composer worked it into first a singspiel, then a full opera that premiered on December 23, 1893 at the Hoftheater in Weimar, under the baton of the composer's friend, Richard Strauss. An immediate success, the opera was quickly associated with Christmas and is most frequently performed during the holiday season. The Hexenritt (Witch’s Ride) takes place between Act I and Act II. Due to the composer’s admiration of Wagner, the interlude has been compared by some to the Ride of the Valkyries from DIE WALKÜRE. Wallace's OperaCHARLES LE THIÉRE’S Maritana Fantasy is a lyrical and dramatic work along the lines of the famous Fantaisies of Paul Taffanel and Francois Borne. It is based on themes from the three act opera “Maritana,” the first of six operas composed by William Vincent Wallace. The plot, which is often cited as the inspiration for Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera, "The Yeoman of the Guard," tells the story of Don Caesar, an imprisoned man who weds a woman while awaiting execution. He escapes to search for his bride in disguise, and soon realizes that she is the gypsy street singer he'd first heard in the public square, the beautiful Maritana. This exclusive edition has been carefully edited by Sir James Galway, and includes helpful performance and breathing advice from the world-renowned flute artist and teacher.Flute, Piano
