| 10456 | 9887DDDC-7579-49A9-84E8-4217960A2315 | SS713 | Introduction and Rondo | Anton Diabelli is best known today as the composer of the waltz melody used by Beethoven in his opus 120 Diabelli Variations. As a proof reader for a leading Viennese publisher, he developed a special interest in the business and eventually started the firm of Cappi & Diabelli in 1818. Most of Diabelli's compositions are little known today. This "Introduction and Rondo," originally for violin and piano, is a charming sample of his music and a delight to play. | Clarinet | |
| 10457 | 988E1947-DF23-4C5E-BD9A-86AE02797C14 | A119002 | L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2 | L'ARLÉSIENNE (THE WOMAN FROM ARLES), a play produced in 1872, was adapted from an 1868 novel by the author Alphonse Daudet. Georges Bizet (1838-1875) was commissioned to write the incidental music for the play and actually performed the harmonium part in the premiere performance. The play received a poor reception, seeing only 21 runs. But Bizet went on to arrange the first concert suite the same year as the play's production, and the music quickly became, and has remained, popular on orchestral concert programs. The second concert suite was arranged seven years later in 1879, four years after Bizet’s death. This arrangement was not created by Bizet, but by his friend and fellow contemporary composer Ernest Guiraud. Instrumentation: 2(2nd d.Picc).2(1st d.EH).2.2: Asax: 4.4.3.0. His compositions were numerous, and though mostly unknown today, were popular in his time. He wrote for many different combinations, mostly chamber music settings, but his favorite instrument was always the horn. In these brilliant duos for horn and piano, the composer expects both players to display extremes of emotional and virtuosic capabilities in order to express those feelings. Vol. I titles: I. Andante - Allegro Vivace, II. Allegro Scherzando, III. Grave - Allegretto alla Siciliano. Vol. II titles: IV. Andante quasi Adagio - Allegro, V. Allegretto, VI. Allegro alla Polacca. | Horn, Piano | |
