Fellow Russian composers Rimsky-Korsakov and Glazunov completed and orchestrated what remained. Borodin adapted the ancient Russian epic The Lay of Igor's Host, which tells the story of prince Igor Svyatoslavich and his campaign against the invading Cuman (Polovtsian) tribes in 1185. The premiere took place on November 4th, 1890, at St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre, Karl Kuchera, conducting. The Overture was completed and orchestrated by Aleksandr Glazunov (1865-1936), in part from memory, having heard Borodin play it at the piano. Composed sometime between 1790-1792 for solo bass voice and ensemble, it may have been written with German actor and operatic bass Joseph Lux in mind, as the two were members of a group traveling together to Mergentheim, Germany in September and October of 1791. The text discusses the ease with which the speaker agrees with women, yet their difficulties “getting along” with men – at a point, even recounting a brawl with colorful onomatopoeia. | 10357 | 9703D460-049F-4FCA-8B76-D2EE6089A701 | A326690 | Two Swedish Folk Melodies, Op. 27 | Norwegian composer, conductor, and violinist, Johan Severin Svendsen (1840-1911) arranged for string orchestra the TWO SWEDISH FOLK MELODIES, Op. 27, in 1876, with the premiere taking place on October 14 of that year in the large hall of Logen, Christiania, Svendsen conducting. The use of folk material had served him well in his Norwegian Carnival two years earlier, as did hsi return to them here. The first melody, Allt under himmelens fäste (“All under the firmament of heaven”) is a plaintive song, the text telling the story of girl whose love abandoned her, leaving her now wed to Sorrow. The second melody, Du gamla, du friska, du fjellhöge Nord (“Thou ancient, unconquered, rock-towered North”), eventually became the Swedish national anthem, with its nostalgia for past glory, patriotism, and praise for the Swedish landscape. This reprint edition includes a string count of 8-8-5-5-5 in the set. | String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set) | |

Subtitled "fairy tale scene", it is probably his most celebrated work due to its delicate scoring and evocative tranquility. Scholars have suggested that it borrows some material from his unfinished opera ZORYUSHKA. The first performance took place on February 21, 1909 in St. Petersburg under the direction of Nikolai Tcherepnin, to whom Lyadov had dedicated it. Instrumentation: 3.2.3.2: 4.0.0.0: Timp.
