His main work as a pedagogue were two volumes which appeared in 1792: "60 Handstuecke fur angehende Klavierspieler." Of those 60 pieces, 49 have been selected for the present volume. They are arranged in progressive order and have been copied exactly from the originals, excepting a few dynamic indications, with special attention given to the ornaments, which are written out fully when appearing the first time. While this book is intended for beginners on the piano, it may be used to great advantage by advanced students of the clavichord who wish to learn the touch peculiar to that instrument. | Solo Piano

| 9593 | 8C5A71C2-A47F-4EF2-A82A-94AAFE7A8EAC | M379691 | Woodwind Quintet No. 1, Op. 124 | Giulio Briccialdi (1818-1881) is unanimously considered one of the greatest flute virtuosos of all times, often referred to as "The Prince of Flutists." His contribution to the flute repertoire is overwhelming in quantity and quality. His compositions show how his instrumental genius was able to pair an unequaled technical brilliance with the true spirit of Italian Bel canto. His four wind quintets, including Op. 124, are notable for being his only chamber works that include other woodwind instruments. Composed in 1875, Briccialdi's Quintet No. 1 has become a favorite in the Romantic wind chamber music repertory, though much in its light and airy style has a decidedly “Classical” sound. This new edition by Clarence Barber includes a full score, clarinet in B-flat and F Horn parts, and rehearsal numbers for the convenience of the players. | Woodwind Quintet | |

The contemporary, yet tonal work is based on the 3-note motive, A, F and B, the same musical pitches Dr. McGinnis used in his work Symphony for Band. Additionally, since Don McGinnis was celebrating his 90th birthday, Cichy wrote the piece with 100 measures as an omen of good fortune for Don to reach his next biological milestone of 100. | 2+1, 2+1, 2+1, 2 - 4, 0, 3, 1, timp, hp, str, solo T

| 9599 | 8c6a3e56-9e39-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | A126802 | Leonore (Fidelio) Overture No. 1, Op. 138 | The history of Beethoven's only opera, FIDELIO, is rife with twists and turns, among them that the opera was originally to be called LEONORE. Additionally, the opera is unique in that Beethoven composed four different overtures for the work. No. 1 was quickly suppressed by the composer, whereas No. 2 (1805) better resembled the third one to follow in that it conveys the themes of the opera. LEONORE OVERTURE No. 3, Op. 72b was composed in 1806, and remains the most successful of the three LEONORE overtures. In 1814, Beethoven did finally complete an overture that he found suitable, but this was actually referred to as the overture for FIDELIO given the opera's title change. It satisfied Beethoven's vision of a proper curtain-raiser, although, unlike its LEONORE predecessors, it avoids themes from the opera proper. LEONORE OVERTURE No. 1, Op. 138 was written for an 1808 performance in Prague after the intensely dramatic overture was noted to overwhelm the rather light initial scenes of the actual opera.
