Telling the story of the ancient Greek hero Hercules' death through the jealousy of his wife Dejanira, the English libretto by clergyman Thomas Broughton is based on Ovid's Ninth Book of his Metamorphoses and Sophocles' tragedy The Women of Trachis. The premiere was given at King's Theatre in London on January 5th, 1745, as a concert performance. With singers too ill to perform and the complete lack of stage direction, the first run saw only two performances and was unquestionably a failure. The work was reappraised later, however, as a masterpiece and has seen more frequent performances. This 1859 edition by Friedrich Chrysander was released as part of the Deutsche Händelgesellschaft publications in the mid-19th century. The score and parts are abridged, but there are differences between the two, where the score has more movements than the parts, particularly impacting the recitatives. Review (Diapason, Oct. 1978): “The concluding work was the premiere of William Bolcom’s Revelation Studies, an eight-movement work based on Biblical themes and commissioned by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Each movement includes choreography, and several movements require two players at the carillon; in these, Mr. (Hudson) Ladd was assisted by John Gouwens. The work made a brilliant finale to both the concert and the congress, and the composer was present to acknowledge the ovation from the large audience. This production had required the building of a substantial stage at the foot of the tower, as well as the use of lighting and costumes; the timing of the conclusion was very good: the heavens opened with a summer downpour immediately following!2 Carillonneurs, Dancers

89928426D408-803B-41ED-830D-F20E77C3058620512001Crusaders And Victory"Crusader's Hymn" is one of the best known and loved hymn tunes. Of unknown origin, it was first published in 1842. The editor reported hearing it sung by haymakers in Silesia, now a province in southern Poland. "Victory" was composed by Giovanni Perluigi da Palestrina (1515?-1594) in 1591. William Henry Monk adapted the work as an Easter hymn in the mid-nineteenth century. This arrangement by Percy Hall for three trumpets is characterized by independent rhythms, giving players the opportunity to practice that crucial aspect of chamber music.Bb Trumpet Trio

Reflecting the influence of Mendelssohn and Chopin, each melodic piece shows her clear understanding of the formal and harmonic tendencies of those two master composers. Her later husband Robert Schumann would say of Clara's Soirées musicales as boasting a "wealth of unconventional resources, an ability to entangle the secret, more deeply twisting threads and then to unravel them." Movements: 1. Toccatina, 2. Notturno, 3. Mazurka in G minor, 4. Ballade, 5. Mazurka in G major, 6. Polonaise. Reprint edition.Solo Piano

89968433E456-88A9-4A50-B580-6AF444E7FC3252711569Six Violin Duets, Op. 5, Nos. 1-3Maddalena Sirmen was a groundbreaking and innovative violinist, composer, singer and keyboard player. She was a student of Giuseppe Tartini who considered her an outstanding talent. She decided to become a professional violinist at a time when female instrumentalists were a rarity. She concertized, playing her own compositions in Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, England and Russia. As a composer she remained active during her career as a celebrated violinist. She composed chamber music, concertos for one and two violins. In the 1780’s the style of violin playing changed. Her playing became old fashioned, according to the tastes of the times. She abandoned her concert activity as a violinist, and became the leading soprano of the St.Petersburg Opera in Russia. Her Six Duets for Two Violins demonstrate her great compositional ability and reflect the early evolution of the Classical style, with the second part less contrapuntal but rather comprised of parallel and accompaniment figures. This collection comes in two volumes.Violin Duo

EL RELICARIO is one such song, where the vocal and piano was met with absolute success and recognition, and it is now also among the most famous and best loved paso dobles in the band literature. This setting by Philip J. lang retains all of the delightful rhythms and enchanting melodies of the original. Its Latin flavor is full of colorful Spanish flourish.Concert Band
