86547F439FBE-315E-462F-A4D5-ECD077E139BDSU841Air Varie for Clarinet and PianoAir Varie is a theme and variations, a compositional form that originated in the Baroque period before becoming a standard form of the classical period. Edited by the International Clarinet Association's former Pedagogy Chair, Paula Corley, this delightful recital piece for clarinet and piano opens with a rubato solo for the clarinet leading to the primary theme in a slow waltz style. The first variation appears within the opening waltz section, embellishing the theme with fast, slurred passages. Variation two presents the melodic material in a slower, deliberate 4/4 meter, reminiscent of works by Carl Maria von Weber. The third and final variation recaps the theme in a fast triple meter showcasing the technical virtuosity of the performer. A closing accelerando creates a strong, exciting finish.Clarinet, Piano

86597F5280D4-6487-43F7-8A0D-E9D4687BFA73M110791Sonata in G minor, Op. 19The SONATA in G minor, Op. 19, was written in 1901 for cello and piano, and it was Sergei Rachmaninoff's (1873-1943) final chamber work, finished right after the composer finished his famous PIANO CONCERTO No. 2, Op. 18. The public success of these two works helped Rachmaninoff recover from the depression and creative pause resulting from the failed 1897 premiere of his SYMPHONY No. 1. The SONATA premiered in Moscow on December 15, 1901, with Anatoly Brandukov, to whom the work was dedicated, playing the cello and the composer at the piano. Rachmaninoff considered the piano to be more than mere accompaniment in this work, but rather an equal to the cello, usually introducing the themes that the cello would then embellish and expand upon.
