85447dbf9eb4-9e3b-11f0-a418-0022482c9682R227CBNO-NAME STARSpringing out of his teenage imagination, No-Name Star waited sixteen years before Pablo Rojas decided he had gathered enough tools in his musical chest to construct it. Although the work finds an intriguing connection to the composer’s own novel, titled ORLOS, it eschews a non-musical concept or story. Crafted into four large sections, it could be described as a large toccata for orchestra. The premiere took place on May 25, 2023.Symphonic Band and Recorded Audio

The delightful galop Petersborough Sleighride (Petersburger Schlittenfahrt; The Sleighbell Tingle) was written in 1886 or earlier, likely for piano originally. For those looking for some variety in their sleigh rides, this charming work will make for a wonderful addition to a winter concert. Written at a time when the double bass was rarely featured as a solo instrument, the concerto is both technically demanding and lyrically expressive, showcasing the virtuosic possibilities of the instrument while retaining the elegance and wit of the Classical style. Today, Dittersdorf’s bass concertos, particularly this work, are cornerstones of the double bass repertoire, frequently performed in recitals, competitions, and conservatories worldwide, celebrated for their blend of virtuosity, charm, and historical importance in expanding the instrument’s solo literature.
