(from Alexander's Feast) | George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) completed the oratorio Alexander's Feast, HWV 75 in 1736, and it was throughout his life and after one of his most consistently successful works. Written to celebrate Saint Cecilia's Day, it describes a banquet held by Alexander the Great in a Persian city where the musician Timotheus sings, arousing various moods in Alexander until he burns down the city in revenge for his dead Greek soldiers. Revenge! Timotheus Cries! from the beginning of Part 2 is a bass aria that begins the incitement for Alexander to take his vengeful action. R. Winston has arranged this for numerous brass instrument solos with piano accompaniment for the developing to intermediate musician, and these are a wonderful selection for recital or contest. Versions for cornet/trumpet/euphonium T.C., trombone/euphonium B.C., and tuba are available from the publisher. | Trumpet/Cornet/Euphonium (T.C.) and Piano | |

| 818 | 0b105450-9e3b-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | M188791 | Chorale Preludes by Old Masters, Vol. 3 | The present collection of forty five CHORAL PRELUDES OF OLD MASTERS (CHORALVORSPIELE ALTER MEISTER), presented in three volumes, may well serve as an introduction to those of Johann Sebastian Bach, since it demonstrates that the forms which Bach used actually emerged in the course of the seventeenth century. Although Bach's great genius outstrips his predecessors in the use of these forms, the organ music of the seventeenth century is well worth examination in its own right. In comparison with the works of the post-Bach period, which have enjoyed long popularity, it shows up to enormous advantage. This collection will have served its purpose if its stimulates the organist to explore the rich material afforded by that earlier period. Works in volume 3: 32. Scheidemann: Gott sei gelobet und gebenedeiet; 33. Scheidt: Christ lag in Todes banden; 34. Walther: Jesu, meine Freunde; 41. Walther: Lobe den Herren, den mächtigen König; 42. Walther: Warum betrübst du dich, mein Herz; 43. Walther: Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan; 44. Weckmann: Ach wir armen Sünder; 45. Zachow: Komm, heiliger Geist, Herre Gott. | Organ Solo | |
