This trend exhibited a heavy influence on the poetry and music of the time. In 1814, Friedrich Treitschke penned a patriotic opera, DIE GUTE NACHRICHT, on which several Viennese composers collaborated, including Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). He contributed the music for the closing number, a song celebrating German courage in five patriotic verses. The first performance of GERMANIA, WoO 94, took place on April 11, 1814 at the Theater am Kärntnertor in Vienna. Composed when Nielsen was only 22 in 1988, he had it published as his Op. 1 due to it being his first success, despite having published other works previously. The three-movement suite was premiered by the Tivoli Orchestra in Copenhagen on September 8th, 1888, Balduin Dahl conducting and Nielsen himself in the 2nd violin section.
