684464969214-D76C-4715-AB66-F212754532C3M164891Molly on the Shore for Violin and PianoPercy Grainger's (1882-1961) love for music of the simple rural folk of the British Isles led to a series of forty-three pieces that he grouped into a series called "British Folk-Music Settings", including MOLLY ON THE SHORE, Irish Reel from British Folk Music Settings, No. 1. Grainger produced at least six versions of this folk tune arrangement of two contrasting Irish Reels (TEMPLE HILL and MOLLY ON THE SHORE from "The Complete Petrie Collection of Ancient Irish Music"), starting with the original 1907 version for string quartet or string orchestra. That same year, Grainger also produced this version for violin solo and piano. Reprint edition. A wholly unique version "freely arranged for violin and piano" by Fritz Kreisler is also available from the publisher.Violin and Piano

Composer Edward Elgar (1857-1934) wasted little time in setting four of those songs to music at the suggestion of Lord Charles Beresford, to whom Elgar dedicated the song cycle. Written for four baritone soloists and orchestra, the work premiered at a wartime variety show held at the London Coliseum on June 11, 1917, and they proved very popular. Songs: 1. The Lowestoft Boat; 2. Fate's Discourtesy (poem "A Song in Storm"); 3. Submarines (poem "Tin Fish"); 4. The Sweepers (poem "Mine Sweepers").1-4 Baritones and Piano

In this delightful piece, each section delivers the melody or counter melody accompanied by the ‘rocking’ bass part. Masterfully written, the piece modulates from the key of G to D, enabling the melody to be played in an opportune range on each instrument. Another familiar holiday melody serves as the transition between keys. Rock on!String Orchestra with Rehearsal Piano
