Considered by many to be Beethoven's masterpiece, it premiered on May 7, 1824, in Vienna at the Kärntnertortheater, Michael Umlauf and Beethoven co-conducting. With Friedrich Schiller's poem "Ode to Joy" adapted for the final movement, the symphony remains a major part of the repertoire. Both a vocal score (W746491) and a choral score (W732791) for the fourth movement are available from the publisher. | Solo SATB: Mx Chor: Pno accomp.

While it is a wonderful vehicle for teaching the 'bounce bow' technique, it also has a beautiful, legato countermelody that makes this work a delight on any program. Ritardandos in the music indicate the juggler's objects getting higher each time, but they give the director a wonderful opportunity to reinforce the importance of watching the baton. | String Orchestra

Research on the pieces contained in this collection has shown that most of these sonatas are probably a pastiche, partly of Vivaldi concerti themes, and partly of works by other composers. This version has both a fully realized piano accompaniment and a continuo part for those who wish the full Baroque experience. | Flute, Harpshichord (alt. Piano)

As he began to develop an affinity for a colder, stripped-down musical aesthetic, the original instrumentation underwent several changes before its premiere on June 13, 1923 in Paris. Dedicated to Serge Diaghilev, the work is unusually scored for four pianos, four soloists, chorus, and percussion. Its four scenes, performed without break, depict the rituals before and after a wedding ceremony, ending in an effervescent feast. The chamber accompaniment conductor score and parts are available separately from Edwin F. Kalmus (A272702) and the choral score is available separately from LudwigMasters (W746691). | Soli S.MzS.T.B: Mix Chorus (SATB): Keyboard

The poem relates the first celebration of May’s Eve, first practiced by the Bavarian Druids who masquerade as demons to frighten the Christians living nearby. The composer conducted the first public performance on January 10, 1833 at the Sing-Akademie in Berlin. In 1843, he published the final revised version as OPUS 60. The full score and parts (A266402) can be ordered separately. The English vocal score (W700091) is also available. Instrumentation: Soli ATB, Mixed Chorus, and Piano. | 5874 | 55c0350e-9e3c-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | W747691 | Nabucco (Complete Opera) | NABUCCO, a retelling of the biblical story of Jewish exile under the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar, was Giuseppe Verdi’s (1813-1901) first major operatic success, and was written reluctantly, following a difficult period in the composer’s life. Having lost his young wife, Margherita, in the summer of 1840, and seeing his second opera, UN GIORNO DI REGNO, fail disastrously, closing after only a single performance in September 1840, Verdi was left understandably depressed and prepared to give up on music altogether. However, Bartolomeo Merelli, who ran the famed Milan opera house, La Scala, urged Verdi to write another opera. Verdi wrote Nabucco in 1841, and it was an instant commercial and critical success upon its premiere in 1842. Choral score. The story tells of a rich widow for whom her countrymen attempt to find her a new husband that will keep her money in the principality. The operetta was successful when it premiered on December 30, 1905 at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, with Lehár conducting, and it has remained a staple of the opera repertoire ever since. | 5878 | 55d2051b-9e3c-11f0-a418-0022482c9682 | W747991 | Symphony No. 2 in B-flat or Lobgesang (Hymn of Praise), Op. 52 (complete) | Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) wrote LOBGESANG (HYMN OF PRAISE), Op. 52 in 1840 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Johannes Gutenberg's invention of the printing press. Described by the composer as a "Symphony-Cantata on Words of the Holy Bible for Soloists, Choir and Orchestra," the work starts with the orchestra-only for the first three movements, then ten more movements for vocal soloists, mixed chorus, and orchestra follow. The work premiered on June 25th, 1840, in Leipzig with the Thomaskirche, Mendelssohn conducting. The designation as SYMPHONY No. 2 was a decision made by the publisher after Mendelssohn's death, and while the work has become popularly known by that title since, there is nothing to suggest that this decision represented the composer's intentions. | Solo SST: Mixed Chorus: Keyboard accompaniment

This edition has been edited by Michael Kaye and Emilio Colón. | Violoncello and Piano |
