23003da622-9e3a-11f0-a418-0022482c9682A732402Concerto for Cello No. 87 in A, GT 1.A28 (Ravanello)Italian composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770), the first known owner of a Stradivarius violin, composed at least 135 violin concerti and at least 100 violin sonatas in his lifetime, among a few other works not for the violin. While the fact that he never dated his manuscripts nor cataloged revisions makes it very difficult to catalog his works, scholars have created systems to at least categorize his output based on the stylistic characteristics of his music. This CONCERTO FOR CELLO No. 87 in A, GT 1.A28 (Canale 1.2.A.01) is among the select works Tartini did not write for violin, and the only known concerto for cello by Tartini, likely written for Antonio Vandini, the first cellist of the Chiesa del Santo (Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua) where Tartini was first violinist for many years. While the work is, overall, energetic, the solo cello part presents itself more discreetly and almost shyly at times, largely due to being written in the middle range of the instrument. Instrumentation: Org (opt., in set): Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set): Solo Cello in set. Reprint of the edition by composer and organist Oreste Ravanello (1871-1938), with revisions to the solo cello and cadenza by cellist Luigi Silva (1903-1961).Org (opt., in set): Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set): Solo Cello in set

3300610ACC-4ECA-46FC-8977-864C2CD26F47A928590The SeaThe Sea is an orchestral suite written in 1910-11 by Frank Bridge. It has also described as a symphonic tone poem. It consists of four movements, about which the composer wrote the following comments for the program notes at the premiere: 1. Seascape: Allegro ben moderato - "Seascape paints the sea on a summer morning. From high drifts is seen a great expanse of waters lying in the sunlight. Warm breezes play over the surface." 2. Sea Foam: Allegro vivo - "Sea-foam froths among the low-lying rocks and pools on the shore, playfully not stormy." 3. Moonlight: Adagio non troppo - "A calm sea at night. The first moonbeams are struggling to pierce through dark clouds, which eventually pass over, leaving the sea shimmering in full moonlight." 4. Storm: Allegro energico - Allegro moderato e largamente - "Wind, rain and tempestuous seas, with the lulling of the storm an allusion to the first number is heard and which may be regarded as the sea-lover's dedication to the sea."3(3dPicc).2+1.2+1.2+1: 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc(4).Hp: Str(9.8.7.6.5)
340063D3B6-16F1-4821-AD92-84F750675F60M987990Danse Macabre, Op. 40Written in 1874, the orchestral tone poem Danse Macabre Op. 40 by Camille Saint -Saëns (1835-1921) premiered in January of 1875 and was not well received by the audience. 21st century scholar Roger Nichols mentions particularly adverse audience reactions to “the deformed Dies irae” melody and the “horrible screeching from the solo violin.” Drawing thematic material from an old French superstition that Death appears at the stroke of midnight on Halloween to dance with the risen dead, the Danse Macabre is now regarded as one of Saint-Saëns’ masterpieces. 350065A6BE-6C4E-488C-939E-72DEBB3B1D61SO147CMischief AfootThe perfect lesson that the rests really are as important as the notes. Counting is a must in this sneaky piece in E minor. Simple rhythms that also include ties. A variety of articulations keep the notes interesting, such as staccato, tenuto, pizzicato and even tremolo. There are 2 sections that allow your orchestra to “create musical mischief.” Sure to be a winner with middle school groups.String Orchestra
3600661273-6BFA-4F83-A2E8-013AA1B841DCB376Songs for Sight Singing Vol. 1: JHHS/ SABSONGS FOR SIGHT SINGING provides a collection of literature for use in the choral classroom. Each selection was composed according to the criteria designed by Texas choral directors and commissioned by the Texas University Interscholastic League for use in its annual sight singing contest. These graded materials were created specifically for young musicians by recognized composers and comprise a valuable resource as they contain many of the problems encountered in sight singing. This collection can be used effectively as a supplement to the daily instructional sight singing program after an approved system (movable “do”, fixed “do” or numbers) and a rhythm system are established within the choral curriculum.SAB

38006C3D04-F40F-484D-B3E6-B6757CD1A390A108802Serenade No. 2 for Strings in F, Op. 63While not so well-known today, Robert Volkmann (1815-1883) was a composer of some standing among his contemporaries, encouraged to pursue music by Robert Schumann, called "dear friend" by Johannes Brahms, and promoted by Franz Liszt with whom he taught at Budapest's National Academy of Music. This SERENADE FOR STRINGS is the second of three written by Volkmann, all three of which were among his most popular works and which were often performed up until World War I, when he and his music began to disappear, like the music of other fine Romantic era composers. SERENADE NO. 2 consists of four short movements which function as mood pictures. The work was referred to by Tchaikovsky as oustanding and superb.String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5)
