The sort of thing one hums to oneself as an accompaniment to one's tramping feet as one happily, excitedly, paces up and down the arrival platform. Originally conceived for middle-fidle single, massed middle-fiddles, or double-reed single, or massed double reeds, or as a humlet for a single voice or chorus of voices, the "Arrival Platform Humlet" was begun in Liverpool Street and Victoria railway stations, London (England), on Febuary 2, 1908, and was continued and finished in 1908, 1910 and 1912 (England, Norway, etc.) In 1916 I scored it for orchestra, piano and Deagan percussion instruments as the first movement of my Suite "In a Nutshell". ~ Percy Grainger. This melody has been dished-up for saxophone single by Roger Greenberg.Saxophone

37104CF574C-C4DF-4F22-9A94-720404B2CE33A201002Concerto for Piano in A minor, Op. 54Having made several attempts to write a piano concerto in the past, Robert Schumann (1810-1856) finally completed his CONCERTO FOR PIANO IN A MINOR, OP. 54, in 1845. The work was premiered in Dresden on December 4, with his wife Clara performing the solo part and Ferdinand Hiller at the baton. To fill the shoes of the first movement, he revised his Phantasie for piano and orchestra from 1841. Following a brief intermezzo, the finale brings the work to a propulsive conclusion. The concerto has since become one of the most performed in the repertoire. Leroy Anderson is known for his polished orchestrations of descriptive compositions, characterized as romantic or nostalgic in theme. BALLADETTE stands in contrast as an elegant, cool and somewhat abstract piece. Both a full orchestra and string orchestra version are available from the publisher. The string parts of the full orchestra and string orchestra editions are identical, since the music is complete with strings alone. Wind parts of the orchestra editions double the strings for added color and may be used as available. It was originally set to music by Édouard Deldevez in 1846 and premiered early that year at the Salle Le Peletier by the Paris Opera Ballet. The ballet was later revived in 1881 by famed French ballet dancer Marius Ivanovich Petipa and included additional music composed by Ludwig Minkus (1826-1917). Paquita tells the story of the young Romani girl Paquita, who is of noble birth, and how she saves and subsequently marries French officer Lucien d’Hervilly. This suite was orchestrated by William McDermott.
